8. MoldedNippleFittings
For best servicefromthis type fitting, exercisethe following precautionsat time of installation.
(a)
Applythin film of Simonize Wax to metal tubes tofacilitateinstallationandremoval.
(b)
Insertfuellinesintoeachnipple until endis flush withinsideedge of cell.
(c)
Ensurehoseclampsclearend of fitting by 0.25 inch,wherepossible.
(d)Torquehoseclampsonce.Donot retighten unlesshose clamp isloosenedcompletelyand allowedto set for15 minutes before retightening.
(e) Donotuse sealing pasteorgasketcompound.
9. Installationof Inboard, Aft-Inboard,and Outboard FuelCells(referto 28-10-00 Figures402,403, and 404)
(a)
Inspectcell compartment.
(b)
Donot remove cell from shipping containeruntil readyfor installation.
(c)
Ensurecell iswarmenoughto flex. Donot use sharptoolssuchas screwdrivers, files, etc, for installationpurposes.
(d)
Placetape or protective materialoveredges of elongatedaccessopeningto preventdamage to cell.
(e)
Rollcell into proper shapeandsizeto insert through accessopeningcell.
(f)
Afterfittingcell into wing, unrollcell and establishpropersizing of cellto fit compartment.
(g)
Fromeachend of cell compartment,feed cord throughcell hangers and rib bushingsuntil cordscan be joinedat access openings. Donottie cord but routeasshownin 28-10-00 Figures 402, 403,and 404.
NOTE: The nyloncord holdingfuelcellshas a 0.125 inchdiameterwith a minimum breaking strengthof 550 poundsand conforms to MIL-T-5040C,TypeIIIspecifications.
(h)
Connectfueldrainplateby inserting threadedendof bolt or rod (not underthreeincheslong)up through plate and nipplefittingof fuel cell(refer to 28-10-00 Figure405). Reach through fuelcellopeningandinstall2 or 2 1/2 inch diameterwasheron bolt or rod; secure withnut. Pullnippledownthroughopeningin wing panelenoughto clamp nipplefittingto plate.
(i)
Removebolt or rod. Secure plateto wing panel andinstall drain valve.
(j)
Oninboardmain cell, install submergedfuelpumpthroughaccessopeningin wing top. Secure to inboard ribwithfourboltsattachingpump.
(k)
Connectelectricalwirestoinboard cell, checkvalveon submergedfuel pump, and connectfuel linestocheckvalve.
(I)
Installfuel cell flangemountingbracketsin elongated accessholeswithscrews.
