Visuallyinspectballs andgroovesin ball screwforpitting,scoring,corrosionandflat spots.
NOTE: Ifanyone partof the ballscrewand/ortube assemblyappeardefective, the entireball screwandtube assemblymustbe replaced.

Inspectworm shaftandwormgearand wormshaftfor excessivewear. If wormgear isworn morethan 0.015inchthe wormgearandwormshaftmustbe replacedas a set. (Referto Figure602)
13. Inspectionof OutboardWingFlapTransmission(referto Figure601)
The flaptransmissionsare inspectedat the first 500 hourinspectioncycleof the aircraftandeach
100 hoursthereafter. This is accomplishedwithoutremovalof the transmissionsby the following
procedures:
(a)
Positionthe flaps in the extendedposition(DOWN).
(b)
Removethe accesscoversonthe lowerwing surfaceto gain accessto the flaptransmissions.
(c)
With the use of vise grip pliers, grip the exposed portion of the set screw close to the transmissionas shown(referto viewsA and B).
(d)
Gentlymovethe pliers from sideto side and measurethe amountof movementwith a 6 inch ruler(seeview B).
(e)
Shouldthe dimensionexceed0.300inch,replacethetransmissionassembly.
(f)
Installthe accesspanelsandmakeappropriatelogbookentry.

14.Inspectionof Inboard WingFlap Transmission
Thisinspectionis performedat the same time the outboard wingflap transmission inspectionis performed.Toperforminboardwingflaptransmissioninspection, proceedas follows:
(a)
Using appropriate tools, check and record flappositionat full up and full down positions.
(b)
Extendflapsto full downposition.
(1.) Pull flap motorcontrolcircuitbreaker.Removepower(GPU,etc)from aircraft.
(2.) Remove accesspanelstoflap transmissions.
(3.) Removenut, washer, andbolt from both inboardandoutboardflap transmissions at flap
attachhorn on right flap.
(4.) Remove nut retaining the potentiometerarmand free armfromflap on the left flap. Removenut. washer, and bolt frominboardandoutboardflap transmission.9. Inspectionof IntboardWing Flap Transmission(continued)
(c) Gently lowerflaps by handto their fully extendedposition. Ensurethat the right flappotentiometerarm straightens out smoothly.
(d)Markoutboard flap transmissions and take care that housing is not movedin or out from originalposition.
(e)Turn inboard flap transmission housingout to its full extension. Keeptrackof the number of turnsto ensure turninghousingbackto original position.
(f) Attachlockingpliers to inboard transmissionscrewjack.Do not force pliers.
(1.) Placea six-inch rulerperpendiculartobottomwingskin. (2.) Measurefreeplayfrom center of flap transmissiondown(approximately3 inches). Freeplaymustnot exceed 0.180 inches.
(g) Turn inboard flap transmission housing in numberofturnspreviouslycounted.
(1.) Raiserightflap until bolt holesin inboard andoutboardflap transmissions alignwithbolt holes in flap horn. Ensurethatflappotentiometer properly.
armretracts (2.) Grease transmission boltswith small amountof general grease. Install both transmission bolts. washers. and nuts, andsafety all with cotter pins. (3.) Perform steps a and b for the left flap. When transmissions are connected, connect potentiometerarm to flap and tighten nut.
(h)
Using the flap riggingtool, checkvalue in full down position. Valueshouldmatchvalue determinedin step (a).
(i)
Lubricatescrewjacksper 12-20-00 in maintenance manual.
(j)
Install access covers on wings.
(k)
Check that flap handle is in full down position.
(I)
Reset flap control circuitbreakerandturn master switchon. Flaps should remain stationary.
NOTE: Flap motor may surge for one secondif down limit switch was moved or not completelycontacted.
(m)While having someoneoutsidethe aircraft to watch, raise the flaps in small increments until the flapsare in full up position. Ensurethat both flaps raise in a consistentmanner.
(n) Checkdegreeof flaps in full position. Ensure that measurementmatchesmeasurementin step (a)
