8. Installation of Aft Rudder Control Sector (Figure 401)
(a)
Assemblypieces of componentand install snap ring where adapter extends throughsector.
(b)
Slide sector assembly onto support bracket.
(c)
Installfive countersunk machine screws.
(d)
Install four bolts fastening rudder torque tube mounting plate (stud weldment plate) to rudder sectorand safety wire.
(e)
Installtrim shaft and connect rudder trim actuator rod end to trim shaft arm.
(f)
Connect control cables to rudder sector at F.S. 303.51 and install tail cone (stinger).
9 Riggingof the Rudder and its Controls (Figure 501)
(a)
Removepilot seat and floor panels on forward side of pressurebulkhead(FuselageStation 57.0).
(b)
In back of cabin between F.S.bulkheads298.38and 310.00, removeleft side floor panels to accesspulleysat F.S. 303.5. Removetailcone (stinger) to access rudder sector.
(c)
Adjustrudder pedal and rudder for neutral position as follows:
(1.) Install rudder rigging tool (P/N 72260) on right side of vertical fin with markings on tool
facing down. Attach tool to fin with No. 10-32 screws and 3 rivnuts at W.L. 84.57.
(2.) Install rudder trim tab rigging tool (P/N 72266-2) on right side of rudder. Attachtool to
rudder,markings facing down, using 3 No. 8-32 screws and 3 rivnuts at W.L. 35.42. (3.) Since differentinstallations of rudder pedal pushrod assemblies exist,referencepoint for rudder pedals is determined as follows:
(a.) For pedal pushrods P/N 70752-19 and P/N 70752-20, aircraftup to serial number 42-801038,positionand secure rudder pedals 10.51 ± 0.25 inches aft of pressure bulkhead to pedal hinge tube. Measurement to center after tube is 10.85 ± 0.25 inches.
(b.) For wing pedal pushrods P/N 70752-23 and P/N 70752-24, aircraftserial numbers 42-8010038and up, install rudder pedal rigging tool P/N 72233 on pilot left and right pedalsas follows:
(4.) Adjust length of pedal pushrods to level bellcrank on pressure bulkheadand adjust
bellcrank to section pushrod so forward rudder sector is vertical. (5.) Position rudder in neutral (± 1°). (6.) Ensure rudder cables are properly routed around pulleys and are secured with cable
guards. Rig cables accordingto specifications in Figure 501, or proceed with following
step ifautopilot is installed.
CAUTION: CABLE TENSION MUST BE ADJUSTED EVENLY SO AS NOT TO DAMAGECLAMPEDRUDDER.
(7.) Since autopilot bridles affect primarycable tension, do not readjust primary rudder cable tensions. Proceed as follows: (a.) Set tensionto 55 pounds ± 5 pounds and hook up bridle. (b.) Tensionautopilot bridle cables usingproper manufacturers servicemanual. Primary
ruddercabletensionincreases downstream of bridleand decreases upstream. (c.) Record tensions upstreamand downstream of autopilotbridle cable hookupfor later verification. (d.) Duringverification,ensure tension upstreamof autopilot bridlecable hookup is within
+ 5 pounds of previouslyrecorded values.
