 Examine the engine and engine-mounted accessories for signs of fuel, oil and hydraulic leaks.


 NOTE: If an engine turns at speeds below idle, a small quantity
____ of oil leakage can occur. It comes through the carbon seal assembly for the No. 2 bearing. This usually occurs when the engine turns at low speeds for an extended time (when an engine has an extended start/shutdown or when an engine turns freely in the wind). After the engine shutdown, this oil leakage can be on the retention bolts for the variable stator vane at the bottom of the engine. It can also be on the bottom of the nose cone/spinner. This small quantity of oil leakage is permitted.

 (17) Calculate the pressure ratios for the low pressure compressor and high pressure compressor, N1C, N2C and EGTC values from the stable engine operation data (Fig. 507).
 (a)  
Compare the calculated N1C value to the N1C LIMIT values shown in the N1, N2 and EGT Acceptance Limits table (Fig. 508). 1) The N1C value must be between the N1C MIN LIMIT and N1C MAX

 LIMIT values.

 (b)  
Compare the calculated N2C value to the N2C LIMIT value shown in the N1, N2 and EGT Acceptance Limits table (Fig. 508) 1) The N2C value must be lower than the N2C LIMIT value.

 (c)  
Compare the calculated EGTC value with the EGTC LIMIT value shown on the N1, N2 and EGT Acceptance Limits table (Fig. 508). 1) The EGTC value must be lower than the EGTC LIMIT value.

 (d)  
Review the calculated low pressure compressor ratio. This value can be between 1.9 and 2.1. This is a guideline only.


 NOTE: The ratio values are guidelines only and not
____ acceptance limits. If the calculated ratios are more than the guidelines, check for instrumentation errors or pressure leaks.
 (e)  Review the calculated high pressure compressor ratio. This value can be between 8.9 and 9.7. This is a guideline only.
