Put the applicable ENGINE BLEED switch to the ON position.
(e)
Make sure the PACKS 1, 2, and 3 switches are in the OFF position.
(f)
Make sure the applicable wing ISLN VALVE switch is open.
(g)
Put the FUEL CONTROL switch to the CUTOFF position (Fig. 208). 1) Examine N2, EGT and fuel flow to make sure they immediately show an engine shutdown. 2) Make sure the EICAS advisory message, ENG 1, 2, 3, or 4 FUEL VLV, does not show. 3) Monitor N2, EGT, fuel flow, and N1 to make sure the indications decrease. 4) Make sure the engine decreases in speed freely and none of the engine parts rub together. 5) When the speed of the engine decreases, monitor the engine for signs of an internal fire or tailpipe fire.
6) If an internal fire or a tailpipe fire occurs, do the steps that follow for an internal fire during an engine shutdown.
(h)
Put the applicable MAIN AFT and FWD switches for the fuel on the pilot's overhead panel, P5, to the OFF position.
(i)
Make sure the PRESS light on the MAIN AFT and FWD switches for the fuel goes on.
(j)
Make sure the CON IGNITION switch is in the OFF position.

(2) If an internal engine fire occurs during the engine shutdown, do the steps that follow:

CAUTION: DO NOT ENGAGE THE STARTER AT A SPEED MORE THAN 15% N2 RPM.
_______ IF YOU ENGAGE THE STARTER AT A SPEED MORE THAN 15% N2 RPM, DAMAGE TO THE STARTER AND GEARBOX CAN OCCUR.
(c) Pull out the applicable START button, to engage the starter, at a speed of 15% N2 rpm or less.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHING AGENTS ON A FIRE IN THE
_______ INTERNAL OR TURBINE EXHAUST AREAS UNLESS THE FIRE IS NOT CONTROLLED WHEN YOU MOTOR THE ENGINE. THE HOT SECTION OF THE ENGINE IS RESISTANT TO VERY HIGH TEMPERATURE. USUALLY, A FIRE IN THE INTERNAL OR TURBINE EXHAUST AREA IS PERMITTED TO BURN UNTIL YOU CAN MOTOR THE ENGINE. THE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE FROM A FIRE IS USUALLY LESS THAN THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE FIRE EXTINGUISHING AGENTS.
IF YOU PULL THE FIRE SWITCH, THE PRESSURE REGULATING AND SHUTOFF VALVE (PRSOV) WILL CLOSE, WHICH WILL PREVENT AIR SUPPLY TO THE STARTER. IF YOU PULL THE FIRE SWITCH, YOU CANNOT MOTOR THE ENGINE.
(d)
Motor the engine to extinguish all signs of internal fire or tailpipe fire. 1) Do not use the starter operation limits.
(e)
After the fire is extinguished, do the engine shutdown procedure.

(3) Do the Emergency Engine Shutdown (Engine Fire Warning) with the steps that follow:
(a) Move the forward thrust lever rearward to the idle position.

(c) Do the steps that follow for an emergency engine shutdown with a fire warning indication. 1) On the pilots' overhead panel, P5, pull the applicable fire handle. 2) Put the applicable MAIN AFT and FWD switches for the fuel to the OFF position.
