 (2)  Before you motor the engine, do the steps that follow:
 (a)  
Remove the engine inlet and exhaust covers, if they are installed.

 (b)  
Examine the engine oil tank for sufficient servicing.

 1)  If it is necessary, do the servicing procedure for the engine oil tank (AMM 12-13-03/301).

 (c)  
Examine the IDG for sufficient servicing.

 1)  If it is necessary, do the servicing procedure for the IDG (AMM 12-13-07/301).

 (d)  
Examine these areas for unwanted materials: 1) The areas around the air inlet 2) The fan and turbine exhaust ducts 3) The wing leading edge immediately above the engine 4) The ground area around the engine.

 (e)  
Make sure you have the conditions that follow: 1) The forward thrust lever is in the idle position 2) The reverse thrust lever is in the off (stowed) position 3) The FUEL CONTROL switch is in the CUTOFF position.

Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).

Supply pneumatic power (AMM 36-00-00/201).

 (5)  
Put the parking brake in the ON position and, if it is necessary, use the electric pump in the hydraulic system No. 4 for a pressure source.


 NOTE: If the hydraulic system No. 4 is pressurized with the
____ engine-driven or air-driven pump, put the HYD PUMPS DEMAND 4 switch to the AUTO or ON position, as it is applicable.
 (a)  If the electrical pump is used as a pressure source, put the HYD PUMPS DEMAND 4 switch to the AUX position.

 (6)  On the pilot's overhead panel, P5, make sure the components that follow are in the specified position:
 (a)  
Applicable ELEC ENG CONTROL switch - NORM

 (b)  
HYD PUMPS DEMAND 1, 2, and 3 switches - OFF

 (c)  
HYD PUMPS ENGINE 1, 2, 3, and 4 switches - OFF

 (d)  
Fire handles 1, 2, 3, 4 and APU - in

 (e)  
ENGINE AUTOSTART switch - OFF

 (f)  
START 1, 2, 3, and 4 buttons - in

 (g)  
FUEL X FEED 1, 2, 3, and 4 switches - ON

Fuel switches:
 1) CTR L and R switches - off
 2) Applicable MAIN AFT and FWD switches - ON


 (i)  
OVRD 2 and 3 AFT and FWD switches - OFF

 (j)  
STAB L and R switches - off

 (k)  
Applicable engine NACELLE ANTI-ICE switch - OFF

 (l)  
WING ANTI-ICE switch - OFF

 (m)  
PACKS 1, 2, and 3 switches - OFF

 (n)  
Applicable ENGINE BLEED switch - ON

 (7)  
On the pilots' overhead maintenance panel, P461, make sure the FLT CONTROL SHUTOFF 1, 2, 3, and 4 TAIL and WING switches are in the OFF position.

On the pilots' center instrument panel, P2, make sure the ALTN FLAPS switch is in the OFF position.

_______ THE ENGINE YOU WILL MOTOR OR START, OR WHICH IS IN OPERATION. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, THE ENGINE INLET SUCTION OR EXHAUST BLAST CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (9)  Make sure the person on the ground can talk to the person in the control cabin.

 WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU OPEN THE APPLICABLE CIRCUIT BREAKERS FOR THE
_______ ENGINE IGNITION BEFORE YOU OPEN THE ENGINE CIRCUIT BREAKER FOR THE FUEL CONTROL VALVE. THE IGNITER PLUGS CAN START THE IGNITION AUTOMATICALLY IF YOU DO NOT OPEN THE CIRCUIT BREAKERS. IF THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER HAS FUEL IN IT, AN INTERNAL ENGINE FIRE OR A TAILPIPE FIRE CAN OCCUR. THE FIRE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
 (10) For the applicable engine, open these circuit breakers and install the DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
