(1) Make sure the person on the ground can talk to the person in the
control cabin.

(2) Do the Start the Engine (Normal Operation) procedure to start the engine.
(a) Use the steps that follow when it is applicable (Fig. 208 and Fig. 209):
CAUTION: YOU MUST HAVE AIR PRESSURE IN THE INLET DUCT IF YOU
_______ MANUALLY OPERATE THE STARTER CONTROL VALVE. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AIR PRESSURE, DAMAGE TO THE STARTER CONTROL VALVE CAN OCCUR.
1) If you use the autostart, when the FUEL CONTROL switch is put to the RUN position, tell the persons on the ground to manually open the starter control valve as follows: Or, If you do not use the autostart, after you pull out the applicable START button, tell the persons on the ground to manually open the starter control valve as follows: a) Install the G71021-6 Drive Extension or -11 long drive
extension through the access port in the IDG access door (Fig. 210 and Fig. 211).
NOTE: Keep the core cowl panels and the IDG access
____
door closed.
b) Engage the Drive Extension with the override receptacle on the starter control valve.
WARNING:_______YOU MUST WEAR COVERS ON YOUR HANDS AND ARMS. THE HEAT AND AIR FLOW FROM THE STARTER CONTROL VALVE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
c) Turn the Drive Extension 90° clockwise (view from the bottom of the engine) to move the starter control valve to the OPEN position.

2) When the engine gets to 45-50% N2 rpm, push in the START button.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE THE STARTER CONTROL VALVE AT
_______ APPROXIMATELY 50% N2 RPM. IF YOU DO NOT CLOSE THE STARTER CONTROL VALVE AT APPROXIMATELY 50% N2, DAMAGE TO THE STARTER CAN OCCUR.
3) After the START switch is in the off position, tell the persons on the ground to turn the Drive Extension 90° back to the CLOSED position to close the starter control valve.
4) Remove the Drive Extension from the override access port for the starter control valve.

8. Start Procedure After An Emergency Engine Shutdown__________________________________________________
NOTE: An emergency engine shutdown is an engine shutdown from power levels

more than minimum idle because of a compressor surge or other
emergency conditions.
This procedure is only for an engine, which is started after an emergency engine shutdown, for a ground test of the engine during maintenance.
A. General
CAUTION: YOU MUST FOLLOW THE SPECIFIED INSTRUCTIONS IN THE START
_______ PROCEDURE AFTER AN EMERGENCY ENGINE SHUTDOWN. IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE, DAMAGE TO THE SEALS ON THE TURBINE BLADE TIP CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: ONLY USE THIS PROCEDURE AFTER AN EMERGENCY ENGINE SHUTDOWN FOR
_______ A GROUND TEST OF THE ENGINES DURING MAINTENANCE. DO NOT USE THIS PROCEDURE FOR FLIGHT OPERATION. THIS PROCEDURE IS USED TO ONLY CAUSE MINIMUM DAMAGE TO THE SEALS OF THE TURBINE BLADE TIP. IF YOU USE THIS PROCEDURE FOR A FLIGHT OPERATION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(1) Obey these warnings during all of this task.
