(4) Use the Power Plant Operation (Normal) procedure to start the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(a)
Let the engine become stable at MINIMUM IDLE for 5 minutes.
(b)
Get access to the EICAS EPCS maintenance display (AMM 31-61-00/201).

(c) Make sure the operation indications are in the operation
limits.
NOTE: The EEC controls minimum idle speed on the ground by
____ one of two schedules: A minimum N2 schedule or a minimum PB schedule. The EEC selects the schedule that gives the higher fuel flow. Ambient conditions and service bleed effect %N2 on some conditions and PB on other conditions. Engine idle operation is satisfactory if the %N2 is within the limits or the PB is within the limits. It is not necessary for both %N2 and PB to be within the limits at the same time.
(d) Make sure there are no leaks in the engine.

(5) On the pilots' overhead panel, P5, make sure these components are in the conditions that follow:
NOTE: You must keep the bleed and generator loads off during the
____
test. The limits are made from no-load and no-bleed air
conditions.
(a)
Applicable engine NACELLE ANTI-ICE switch - OFF (unless it is necessary to use)
(b)
WING ANTI-ICE switch - OFF (unless required)
(c)
Applicable ENGINE BLEED switch - OFF
(d)
Applicable ENG GEN CONT switch - OFF

CAUTION: DO NOT MOVE THE THRUST LEVER FORWARD WHEN A POSSIBLE ENGINE
_______ STALL OCCURS. YOU MUST MOVE THE THRUST LEVER REARWARD WHEN A POSSIBLE STALL OCCURS. IF YOU MOVE THE THRUST LEVER FORWARD, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
(6) If an engine stall occurs, do the steps that follow:
(a)
Quickly (in less than 1 second) move the thrust lever rearward to the idle position.
(b)
Put the FUEL CONTROL switch to the CUTOFF position.
(c)
Put the AUTOSTART switch to the OFF position.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT ENGAGE THE STARTER AT A SPEED OF MORE
_______
THAN 15% N2. DAMAGE TO THE STARTER CAN OCCUR.
(d)
Let the engine decrease in speed to less than 15% N2 then pull out the applicable START switch.
(e)
Motor the engine until the EGT is less than 180°C.
(f)
Look at the starter operation limits (AMM 71-00-00/201).

(g) Do the necessary corrections for an engines stall (Ref 71-FAULT CODE DIAGRAM, Surge (Stall) - Fault Codes).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU DO THE START PROCEDURE AFTER AN EMERGENCY
_______ ENGINE SHUTDOWN. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS PROCEDURE, DAMAGE TO THE TURBINE BLADE TIP SEALS CAN OCCUR.
(h) Do this procedure: Start Procedure After An Emergency Engine Shutdown (AMM 71-00-00/201).
