4. Operation
_________
A. The altitude alert system modes of operation are as follows:
NOTE: The altitude approach points are 900 feet above and 900 feet
____ below the selected altitude. The altitude capture points are 300 feet above and 300 feet below the selected altitude.
(1)
Approach mode - The actual altitude approaches the selected altitude and is in the range between the altitude approach point and the altitude capture point.
(2)
Capture mode - The actual altitude is maintained between the two altitude capture points and the selected altitude.
(3)
Deviation mode - The actual altitude deviates from the selected altitude and is in the range between the altitude capture point and the altitude approach point.
(4)
Reset mode - The system is reset when the actual altitude deviates from the selected altitude and exceeds the altitude approach point, or the selected altitude is recaptured, or a new selected altitude is set on the MCP when the parking brake is not set. When the parking brake is set or the landing gear is down and locked, the system is reset only when the absolute altitude difference is greater than the altitude approach point.
(5)
Inhibit mode - The system is inhibited when the glide slope is captured, or the flaps are in landing range and the landing gear is down and locked if the parking brake is not set.
B. Functional Description - Crew Alerting Card (Fig. 2)
(1)
The crew alerting card receives selected altitude from the MCP bus, baro-corrected altitude from two ADC data busses, and control signals from the MCP bus, master monitor card busses, parking brake discrete and captain's AIR DATA SOURCE SELECT switch discrete.
(2)
Only one baro-corrected altitude input is used for altitude alert system calculations. Selection of this input is accomplished by the following logic:
