747-400 MAINTENANCE MANUAL
PITOT-STATIC SYSTEM - MAINTENANCE PRACTICE (PRESSURIZATION)
___________________________________________________________
 1.  General
_______
 A.  This subject gives one task. This task applies pressure to the
pitot-static system to make an altitude and airspeed.

 TASK 34-11-00-862-001
 2.  Pressurization
______________
 A.  General
 (1)  These general instructions apply to the task.
 (a)
When you apply a vacuum to a static system, the rate must not be more than 5000 feet for each minute.

 (b)
When you release a vacuum from a static system, the rate must not be more than 5000 feet for each minute.

 (c)
When you apply pressure to a pitot system, the rate must not be more than 300 knots for each minute.

 (d)
When you release pressure from a pitot system, the rate must not be more than 300 knots for each minute.

CAUTION: YOU MUST NOT LET THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PITOT AND
_______ STATIC PRESSURES BE MORE THAN 10.19 INCHES OF MERCURY. DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE SYSTEM.
 (e)  The absolute pressure in the pitot system must be equivalent to or more than the pressure in the static system.
CAUTION: YOU MUST NOT LET THE ABSOLUTE PRESSURE BE MORE THAN 32.10
_______ INCHES OF MERCURY. DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE SYSTEM.
 (f)
The absolute pressure applied to a static system must not be more than the ambient pressure when an instrument is connected to that static system.

 (g)
Do not connect or disconnect the equipment when you apply a pressure or a vacuum to the pitot-static system.

 (h)
Make sure that you flush the pitot-static probe adapter with water before installation on the probe.

NOTE: A solution that has equal parts of ethylene glycol and
____ water must be used in temperatures between 32°F and .40°F.
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE PITOT-STATIC PROBE
_______ HEATER. DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE PITOT-STATIC PROBE.
 (i)
Make sure that the pitot-static probe heat is off during the test.

 (j)
Make sure that the autopilot is off.

 (k)
Make sure that the seals used on the static ports do not extend into the static ports.
