ALTITUDE ALERT SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_________________________________________________
General
_______
 A.  The altitude alert system provides the pilots with aural and visual awareness of actual airplane altitude compared to a selected altitude. The modes of operation are approach, capture, deviation, reset, or inhibit.
 B.  The altitude alert system circuitry is contained on the crew alerting card in the modular avionics and warning electronic assembly (MAWEA) card file. The card compares baro-corrected altitude with the selected altitude to determine mode and provides outputs to interfacing systems to generate the appropriate indications for that mode.
Crew Alerting Card (Fig. 1)
__________________
 A.  The crew alerting card performs altitude alert and several other crew awareness functions as part of the aural warning system.
 B.  The crew alerting card receives and processes inputs to the altitude alert system and provides altitude advisory and alert outputs to interfacing systems when the airplane approaches or deviates from a selected altitude.
 C.  The crew alerting card is installed in the MAWEA card file (STA 348, WL 153, RBL 25). The card front panel has a red LED that comes on to indicate a card fault and a yellow LED that comes on to indicate an interface fault.
