2. Component Description
_____________________ The spoiler is a wedge-shaped structure. It has carbon fiber top and bottom skins, sides and a trailing edge profile, bonded to a honeycomb core. There are four machined aluminum-alloy attachment-fittings. These are the inboard and outboard hinge brackets (with links), the center hinge and the spoiler actuator attachment-fitting. The actuator attachment-fitting is installed within the center hinge. The spoiler is attached by the links and the center hinge to the outer rear spar.
A titanium alloy rubbing strip is attached to the trailing edge of the spoiler, to prevent damage to the spoiler when the outboard flap is retracted. Seals are located at the inboard and outboard ends and along the leading edge of the spoiler.
