For a complete preflight briefing
A preflight briefing is only complete when you have the latest MET information and all
current NOTAM. NOTAM must include Head Office, FIR, airspace, departure, enroute,
destination and alternate locations. The GEN section of ERSA lists all AVFAX MET
products.
Notes on using AVFAX
ARFOR areas are identified on Planning Chart Australia. FIRs are identified on Enroute
Charts.
The Group codes shown on these pages give location, FIR, airspace NOTAM with the
area and location MET and SIGMET within the area. Location NOTAM older than 7 days
will appear as 1 line summaries.
To obtain more specific AVFAX information, refer to the GEN section of ERSA.
Groups of AVFAX product codes can be combined into single custom codes. If you fly
the same route regularly, a single custom code can replace multiple standard codes.
Contact the AVFAX Help Desk 07 3866 3573 FAX : 07 3866 3685, to start the procedure
to establish a custom code.
A faster method of keying product codes into AVFAX is to use the Fast Access Mode.
This procedure is described in the GEN section of ERSA.
Cancelling an AVFAX request:
Your request will be cancelled if you hang up at any time before hearing the final "Thank
You" response.
To update an AVFAX briefing
To receive an AVFAX update, telephone a Briefing Officer via the Airservices/Telstra
PhoneAway System on 1800 805 150 and quote the Briefing Reference Number printed
at the beginning of each AVFAX briefing or use the NAIPS pilot access. Updates can be
given over the phone or sent by FAX.
When FAX and phone are not available, call Flightwatch by radio, ask for an AVFAX
update and quote the Briefing Reference Number.
