PREFLIGHT INFORMATION AND FLIGHT NOTIFICATION
1. PREFLIGHT INFORMATION SERVICES
1.1 The preflight information service offers a range of services which are supported by NAIPS.
NAIPS contains a database of NOTAM and meteorological information.
1.2 The service delivery options for preflight information and flight notification are in, order
of preference:
a. Airservices' web site http://www.airservicesaustralia.com
(click on pilot briefing)
b. Direct dial-in pilot access to NAIPS - 0198 304 767
c. AVFAX (weather & NOTAM only) - 1800 805 150 *
d. DECTALK (weather only) - 1800 805 150 *
e. Personal Briefing - 1800 805 150 *
(Military users see ERSA page INTRO 1.)
f. By radio, where telephone facilities are not available.

1.3 For meteorological information only:
a. Civil aviation - Bureau of Meteorology web site http://www.bom.gov.au
b. Military users - meteorological information can also be obtained from the
BoM, Defence Meteorological Support Unit (DMSU)

2. NATIONAL HELP DESK
2.1 A National Help Desk is available H24 on 1800 801 960.
3. AIRSERVICES' WEBSITE & DIRECT DIAL-IN PILOT ACCESS TO NAIPS
3.1 Internet
3.1.1 Preflight information and flight notification services are available via the Internet. The
service is available via the Airservices' home page -
http://www.airservicesaustralia.com (click on pilot briefing).
3.1.2 Users are required to be registered. Instruction about obtaining registration, user ID, and
passwords are available from the pilot briefing welcome page. User documentation is
also available from the pilot briefing welcome page.
Information available via the Internet includes:
a. Specific Preflight Information Briefing (SPFIB)
b. Full Text NOTAM
c. Location Briefing
d. Area Briefing
e. Special MET Briefing
f. General MET Forecasts
g. First light / last light calculations
h. Wind / Temperature Profile
i. Retrieve Previous SPFIB
j. Update SPFIB
k. Update AVFAX Briefing
l. GPS RAIM (Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring) Availability
m. AVFAX Charts
n. NAIPS Charts
o. UTC Time Check
p. Flight notification using:

Access to these services is dependent on the normal availability and
reliability of the Internet.
3.2 Direct Dial-In Pilot Access to NAIPS
3.2.1 Preflight information and flight notification services provided by NAIPS include the following:
a. Preflight information
(i) the use of stored personal flight files, AD HOC briefings, or using Airservices'
stored routes for tailored, standard briefings;
(ii) update of preflight briefings;
(iii) display of original briefings
(iv) location, area or route briefings;
(v) general forecasts;
(vi) the use of Grid Point data for high level operations;
(vii) first and last light calculations.
(viii) GPS RAIM (Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring)
b. Flight notification using:
(i) Stored Flight File
(ii) SPFIB
(iii) Flight Notification Form
(iv) Domestic / ICAO
(v) SARTIME
3.2.2 The above services are available as a menu choice, and on-line help is available for those
unfamiliar with the service, by inserting the character "?" in the relevant field. User
documentation is available when the software is acquired.
3.2.3 The NAIPS database recognises aerodrome abbreviations, waypoints or common names,
