Set CLB thrust note speed trend, note acceleration rate, note time to reobtain
300 kt IAS.
11, 25 : Speed : 300 kt ; FL 100. DIR TO WPT ahead (i/e : LMG).
When on course select heading at 180° then turn.
Note with FD bar bank is 25° and radius is 8 NM. Observe the cross track on ND.
DIR TO : TN. Same exercise at 250 kt : radius 5 NM.
13, 27 : Climb to FL 330
Call MCDU PERF page ; read CLIMB managed speed field : IAS/MACH
- Monitor MACH displayed on PFD (bottom left) when > 0.5
When indication reaches MCDU predicted value (cross over altitude),
Observe :
- On FCU : "SPD" above the speed knob changes to "MACH"
- From FL 290 to FL 330 : IAS reduces to maintain same MACH
- VLS (if visible) increases with altitude
- VMO (red strip) decreases to maintain MMO
- Fuel flow
Select SPD 250 kt. Make turn at 20° then 30° bank : note "how VAlpha PROT" changes
with g-load. Make steep turn (45° bank) to experience high speed buffet. Explain high
speed buffet onset with increasing g-load. Point out the g-load indication on ECAM
system and status display.

14, 28 : Initiate a descent in managed speed.
SPD target on PFD increases again : FMS maintains same MACH down to the cross
over altitude then reverts to IAS.
SPD select 280 kt - in DES mode > note V/S
- in OP DES > note V/S
SPD select 300 kt : same exercise.
Explain which A/C configuration (light or heavy GW) descends faster .
15, 29 : Stop descent at FL 100 ; resume descent in OP DES /THR manual to 5000 ft.
Adjust THR to establish a 1 000 ft/mn descent.
Extended speed brake (half then full) and note "Nose up effect" ; note V/S
Retract speed brake and note "Nose down effect".
At 5000 ft ALT : ATHR ON then SPD managed.
Observe : attitude changes and aircraft behaviour from 300 kt to 250 kt.
ACTIVATE APPR Phase
From 250 kt, reduce thrust so as to extended LDG gear and Flaps in sequence.
Note attitude for each aircraft configuration.
Note distance to slow down from 250 kt to VAPP.
Clean up the aircraft, accelerate to G dot speed.
16, 30 : Set a/c at 5 000 ft ALT on glide, then reduce thrust for straight in approach.
In this case, even with Idle, aircraft is not decelerating. (SPD BRK or LDG gear must
be extended first)
Establish Landing configuration ; note distance to slow down speed from Green dot
speed to VAPP. Observe pitch change.
Level off at 2000 ft AGL and practice some turns in landing configuration.
19, 33 : Stabilized visual approach (ILS supported).
