01 - SESSION OBJECTIVE
· Introduce the jet aircraft particularities in terms of :
- flight characteristics and envelope (speed, high altitude handling)
- thrust / speed management
02 - TRAINING TOPICS
A. REVIEW
· Transit cockpit preparation
B. INTRODUCE
· The Trainee has received a 3 hour briefing on jet aircraft performance
· Take-off : noise abatment procedure
· Reduced flight envelope at high altitude
· Engine response
· Aircraft deceleration in approach : stabilized and decelerated approaches
03 - SESSION PROFICIENCY CRITERIA :
· Understanding of thrust / speed management
· Ability to handle a jet aircraft
04 - SESSION GUIDE :
Eng V1 VR V2 Flex

IAE 122 131 132 56
7, 21 : On runway : note N1 at idle
Set 50% : note time to reach 50% (spool up rate)
NOTE : The engines do not spool up "symmetrically". This justifies a two step thrust
application.
Set both engines at T/O thrust : note "spool up rate".
Then apply take-off SOP.
Apply standard noise abatement procedure.
Note FMA messages (Thrust reduction and acceleration altitude)
8, 22 : Climb at green dot speed (selected) : note pitch attitude and V/S
Revert to 250 kt IAS : note pitch attitude and V/S

23, 24 : Level off at FL 100. ATHR ON, speed MANAGED.
Study aircraft behaviour (acceleration, deceleration rate) during thrust change :
Memorize N1 value then disconnect ATHR.
Reduce N1 by 10% :
- start time ; note time to decelerate from 250 kt to 240 kt (approx 70 sec)
ATHR ON / LVR CLB (speed returns to 250 kt).
Memorize N1 value then disconnect ATHR.
Add N1 10% :
- start time ; note time to accelerate from 250 kt to 260 kt (approx 25 sec)
ATHR ON / LVR CLB (speed returns to 250 kt).
SPD selected ; accelerate to 300 kt. When stable ...
Set N1 at idle (levers are at "MECHANICAL GATE").:
Note N1 / speed trend / IAS reducing continuously.
Maintain altitude note "Speed deceleration rate", and attitude change.
When IAS at Green dot speed : adjust thrust to maintain the speed : note N1 and pitch.
