01 - SESSION OBJECTIVE
· To introduce and practice engine failure: procedures and handling skills
· To review task sharing in abnormal situations
02 - BRIEFING TOPICS
· Engine fire in flight
· Engine failure at take off : task sharing, engine failure profile
· Single engine approach and landing
03 - SESSION PROFICIENCY CRITERIA
· Understand and apply engine failure at take off procedures
· Acceptable handling skills including :
- Speed : not below V2
- Runway track within 10°
04 - SESSION GUIDE
3 : Down wind freeze the altitude and position
Ask the trainee to reduce one engine and explain the use of rudder to center the Beta
target and the use of max continuous thrust
Repeat until proficient, shut down the engine and release the simulator
5 : Proceed for a decelerated approach
Assist the trainee for corrections required to maintain the beta target centered
9 : Insert an engine fire and freeze altitude and position
Assist the trainee in applying the ECAM procedures and release the simulator when
the ECAM actions have been completed
12 : Repeat until proficient
16 : 1st take off :
After take off freeze position and altitude at 500 feet
Pitch attitude set, wings level, select idle thrust on one engine
Adjust pitch attitude to maintain speed at minimum V2
Observe: hands off response, stabilized bank angle (7 to 8° )
Use the rudder to centralize the beta target and trim out foot loads
Repeat simulated engine failure requesting immediate coordinated recovery: repeat
until proficient
