10.9 Immigration Requirements – Christmas Island
10.9.1 Normal Australian immigration procedures apply when entry is
made from outside Australia.
10.9.2 No passports or visas are required when arriving on Christmas
Island from the Australian mainland or Tasmania; however, some
form of identification must be produced for clearance through
Customs/Immigration in Perth; eg, Medicare card.
10.9.3 The following persons are able to enter Christmas Island and are
taken to have been granted a special purpose visa (see sub-para
3.4.2c.), provided they hold an invitation acceptable to the Minister
to visit the casino:
a. Indonesian citizens holding a valid Indonesian passport and
only while he or she travels directly from Indonesia to
Christmas Island for up to a period of five (5) days on the Island.
b. persons who hold and present a passport that is in force and
which contains a visa that gives the person the right
(exercisable for at least 10 days after arrival on Christmas
Island) to return to Indonesia.
c. Singaporean citizens holding a valid Singaporean passport
and only while he or she is travelling directly from Singapore or
Indonesia to Christmas Island for a period not exceeding 5
days after his or her arrival on Christmas Island.
10.9.4 The persons described in para 10.9.3 must complete Incoming
and Outgoing Passenger Cards and Customs Declaration.
10.10 Customs Requirements – Christmas Island
10.10.1 Inwards. Each passenger must declare all prohibited imports or
dutiable goods.
10.10.2 Outwards. No special requirements to be met.

10.11 Passenger Movement Charge – Christmas Island
10.11.1 Passengers departing for other than mainland Australia are
required to pay the Passenger Movement Charge whether
ticketed or not. See para 4.6.1.
10.12 Territory of Cocos (Keeling) Island
Notes:
1. At least 24 hours notice is required for all flights arriving at
Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Landing charges are levied but increase
outside the normal daylight operational period (0700-1700 local,
0030-1030 UTC). There are extra charges (additional to landing
charges) for aircraft arriving outside 90 minutes of stipulated
arrival time. The aerodrome is licensed for night operations;
however, there may be restrictions on the type and size of aircraft.
2. Notice of intended flights can be given to the Senior Reporting
Officer, telephone 08-9162 7576, 08-9162 6702 or facsimile
08-9162 6610 (dial 61-8 in lieu of 08 when dialling from outside
Australia).
3. If fuel is required at Cocos (Keeling) Island (Jet-A1 only
available), the estimated quantity must be advised in advance and
a carnet obtained from Shell, telephone 08-9162 6670, facsimile
08-9162 6682, or mobile 015 474 108.
4. Unless adequate credit has already been established, landing
fees and any other charges must be settled in Australian currency
prior to departure from the Island.
5. All aircraft entering mainland Australia or Tasmania from Cocos
(Keeling) Islands are required to land at a designated international
airport to undergo Customs, Health and Immigration clearance
formalities.
10.12.1 Summary of Documents to be Presented by Pilot or

10.13 Health Requirements – Cocos Island
10.13.1 All aircraft are sprayed on arrival to destroy insects.
10.13.2 Fresh food, fruit and vegetables , or scraps thereof, which
originate outside Australia must be surrendered to the Quarantine
Officer. All other foodstuffs are subject to Quarantine inspection.
10.13.3 No Health Certificates are required from passengers arriving from
Australia. There are no specific formalities to be observed by
departing passengers
10.13.4 Health Certificates may be required from passengers arriving from
countries other than Australia.
10.13.5 The importation into the Territory of animals, birds, trees, plants, or
seeds is prohibited except with the prior permission of the
Australian Department of Primary Industries and Energy.
10.13.6 Health and Fumigation Certificates, as appropriate must be
produced before approved animals, birds, trees, plants or seeds
are unloaded from the aircraft.
10.14 Immigration Requirements – Cocos Island
