signing off a ship.

3.3.4 Passengers travelling on domestic sectors of international flights
within Australia must carry passports or other acceptable forms of
photo-identification.
3.4 Visa Requirements
3.4.1 Except for citizens of Australia who hold Australian passports, all
non-citizens are required to have a visa for entry to Australia.
DOTARS strongly recommends that all passengers proposing to
travel to Australia contact airlines, travel agents or Australian
missions overseas to ensure travel document and visa
requirements are met.
3.4.2 Carriers are required to ensure passengers travelling to Australia
hold, or are eligible to hold, a valid visa. Persons in possession of
expired visas should not be carried to Australia. Visas for travel to
Australia may be for either single or multiple journeys within the
validity of the visa. Visas facilitate travel, but do not guarantee
entry. Visitors who fail to satisfy border checks can be excluded
from entering Australia. Visa types are identified as follows:
a. There are two types of visas: temporary and permanent. Visas
are usually evidenced in the form of stick-in labels affixed to

holders’ passports, travel documents or other documents
acceptable for the purpose of containing evidence of a visa.
b. Visas can also be issued electronically and are called
Electronic Travel Authorities (ETAs). ETAs are for tourist or
short term business travel and can be obtained by telephone or
in person from airlines or travel agents in the following
countries where ETA procedures have been introduced:
Austria Germany South Korea Singapore
Belgium Greece Liechtenstein Switzerland
Brunei Ireland Malaysia United Kingdom
Canada Japan Netherlands USA
ETAs can also be issued by Australian Missions overseas.
ETAs may be issued to nationals of:
Andorra Germany Liechtenstein Singapore
Austria Greece Luxembourg Sweden
Belgium Iceland Malaysia Switzerland
Brunei Ireland Rep. Malta USA
Canada Italy Monaco Denmark
Japan Netherlands Finland S. Korea
Norway and British passports endorsed “British Citizen”.
Arrangements are being made to introduce ETA to nationals of
other countries and enquiries should be made of travel agents
or missions overseas before travelling.
ETA applicants do not complete an application form and no visa
stamp or label is placed in the passport as evidence for ETA
holders. Existence of an ETA is verified electronically by ETA
participating airlines at check-in.
c. Special Purpose Visas (SPVs) are a class of temporary visa
taken to have been granted by operation of law to certain
people or groups; eg, crew of non-military vessels or military
personnel travelling on duty. Once SPV holders arrive in
Australia and are cleared by Immigration, they will receive a
Port and Date stamp in their passports which is the record of
the date they are immigration cleared. SPV holders do not
complete an application form nor do they have a visa label in
their travel documents provided they belong to any of the
following groups (arrival by air only, further categories exist for
passengers arriving by sea):
