With one loop inoperative, near EICAS - APU FIRE LOOP 1 (2) INOP
With two loops inoperative, ENG/APU/CARGO FIRE/OVHT TEST switch - APU FIRE DET INOP MAINTENANCE (M)
For APU ground operation, check that APU external control system is operative.
1. Position fire guard near tail of aircraft to monitor APU.
2. Press BAT switch to ON.
3. Start APU (AMM 49-11-00).
4. At APU shutdown panel on nose landing gear (P62), press APU FIRE SHUTDOWN switch and check that APU shuts down.
5. Press BAT switch to OFF. OPERATIONS (O)
1. For APU use during ground operations, position a fire guard near the tail of the airplane to monitor the APU.
2. Do not use the APU inflight or during taxi operations.
 

 
NOTE 1: Each system, FWD and AFT cargo compartment, consists of one No. 1 smoke detector and one No. 2 smoke detector with dual blowers (detector fans). One detector and/or one blower in each compartment may be inoperative with no loading restrictions.
NOTE 2: Any combination of malfunctions which causes both detectors and/or both blowers in one compartment to be inoperative makes that compartment system inoperative and the loading restrictions apply.
NOTE 3: The -136 AFOLTS card (PN 285N0028-136) automatically tests fire detectors every hour. Earlier versions of the AFOLTS card do not perform the automatic test.

OPERATIONS (O)
The associated compartment must remain empty or contain only ballast, empty cargo handling equipment (ballast may be loaded in ULDs (Unit Load Device)), or Flight Kits. The content of a Flight Kit is defined in B757 Technical File. Materials to be used as ballast shall be non-combustible (see MEL Preamble).
When dispatching with one detector in a compartment inoperative, verify remaining detector operates normally:
1. Depress and hold the ENG/APU/CARGO switch on the fire/overheat test panel (P8) to perform a self test.
2. All Detector EICAS Maintenance Messages will be displayed and the following fire indications will illuminate/display:
Red FWD and AFT CARGO FIRE switchlights (P8) Red FIRE light (P1-3)
EICAS Warning Messages, FWD and AFT CARGO FIRE Red Master Warning Light
Fire Bell sounds
3. Release the ENG/APU/CARGO switch.
4. Messages and lights will extinguish for those systems which operate normally. Applicable EICAS Messages will remain displayed for those systems which are inoperative. The FAIL P-RESET (P-8 Panel) switchlight and EICAS Advisory Message, FIRE/OVHT SYS, will remain displayed if there is a dual-detector fault. Dispatch is not allowed for dual-detector faults, unless the Cargo Compartment remains empty and the Operations (O) Procedure is observed.
