B. For airplanes without the low flow detector, the above EICAS messages will not be displayed after engine shutdown.
C. Once airborne (for all airplanes), the EICAS status message OVBD EX VAL OPEN will be displayed. This indicates that the equipment cooling overboard exhaust valve is in the SMOKE position ensuring cooling airflow due to differential pressure.
D. erase these messages prior to each flight using the maintenance message erase procedure. If these messages cannot be erased, maintenance action is required.
3. When dispatching with empty cargo compartments, it shall be verified that the associated compartment remains empty or contains only ballast, empty cargo handling equipment (ballast may be loaded in ULDs (Unit Load Device)), or Flight Kits. The content of a Flight Kit is defined in B757 Technical File. Materials to be used as ballast shall be non-combustible (see MEL Preamble).

Do the following procedure to verify that the EICAS Advisory message L/R RECIR FAN operates normally:
1. Turn recirculation fan switch(es) to ON.
2. Open circuit breaker RECIRC FAN L on P70 panel (or P31 panel).
3. If the EICAS advisory message L RECIR FAN is displayed, the message operates normally.
4. Close circuit breaker RECIRC FAN L on P70 panel (or P31) panel.
5. Open circuit breaker RECIRC FAN R on P37 panel.
6. If the EICAS advisory message R RECIR FAN is displayed, the message operates normally.
7. Close circuit breaker RECIRC FAN R on P37 panel.

If both auto control systems are inoperative:
Cabin Altitude Control panel (P5) - UNPRESSURIZED FLIGHT ONLY
Pack Control Selector (P5 panel) - SINGLE PACK OPERATION ONLY
MAINTENANCE (M) For unpressurized flight:
1. One of the following procedures (A or B) must be used to establish correct Outflow Valve position and ensure that smoke clearance capability exists during unpressurized flight.
A. If manual (MAN) mode operates normally:
1) Establish communication between the flight deck and ground crew stationed at the outflow valve.
2) Place the Cabin Altitude Control MODE SEL switch to MAN. Drive the valve to 1.5 ± 0.1 inches (mid point on the valve position gage) by "climbing" or "descending" the cabin using the MANUAL switch (See Figure 1A).
