 B. Preparation of the Wheel before Installation
CAUTION : MAKE SURE THAT THE GREASE USED FOR THE AXLE SLEEVE IS THE SAME
_______ AS THE GREASE USED FOR THE BEARINGS (CONE AND CAGE). IF YOU USE A DIFFERENT GREASE, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARINGS.
 (1)
Make sure (if the tire mixability is not allowed) that the wheel for installation has the same type of tire (radial or cross-ply) as the other wheel on the MLG.

 (2)
Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.

 (3)
Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area.

 (4)
Do an inspection of the component interface and/or the adjacent area.

 (5)
 Remove quantities of brake dust.

 (6)
Examine the brake for hydraulic leaks, from the hose connections and the pistons.

 (7)
Examine the brake heat pack. Make sure that:

 -
there is no hydraulic fluid contamination of the carbon parts

 -
there is not too much wear in the drive slots areas and the rivet holes

 -
there is no foreign object damage

 -
there are too many holes, cracks or chips

 -
there are no soft areas, where carbon is missing or crushed

 -
there are no broken rotors or stators

 -
there are no broken or missing links

 -
there are no broken or missing rivets

 -
there is no other possible damage.

NOTE : If the brake is unserviceable it must be replaced (Ref. TASK
____ 32-42-27-000-001) and (Ref. TASK 32-42-27-400-001).
 (8)
Make sure that the driving keys on the brake rotors are correctly aligned.

 (9)
Make sure that the splines of the shaft (31) and the splines of the bushing (24) are in the correct condition.

NOTE : If you find wear replace the related parts.

 (10)
Clean the axle sleeve (8) with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-002)

and dry it with filtered compressed air.

 (11)
Do a visual inspection of the axle protective sleeve to make sure that it is in correct condition.

 (12)
Make sure that the retaining ring (9) of the axle sleeve (8) is in the correct position. The ring must be correctly engaged in its groove. If not, the axle sleeve is not installed correctly and you can damage it when you install the axle nut.

 (13)
Clean the splines (24) of the tachometer hubcap, the splines (31) of the tachometer drive shaft and the splines (33) of the fan with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-002) and dry with filtered compressed air.

 (14)
Apply a thin layer of COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-003) on the transducer (29) and the drive dog (27).

WARNING : YOU MUST NOT PUT TOO MUCH GREASE ON THE AXLE SLEEVE. A VERY
_______ HOT BRAKE CAN CAUSE THE GREASE TO BURN AND CAUSE A FIRE.
NOTE : Do not mix material 04-022 with Material 04-035. You can use
____ material 04-035 as an alternative to Material 04-022. Clean and degrease the parts before you use Material 04-035.
 (15)
Apply a thin layer of COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-022) or COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-035) to the load-bearing surface of the axle nut.

 (16)
Apply a thin layer of COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-003) on the splines (31) and in the bushing (24).

 (17)
Apply a thin layer of COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-022) or COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-035) on the seals (2).

 (18)
Apply a thin layer of COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-022) or COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-035) to the axle sleeve (8).

 (19)
Apply COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-022) or COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-035) to the threads of the axle.

 (20)
 Install the new seals (2).

 (21)
Make sure that the seals (2) are in the correct position on the adaptor (3).

 (22)
 Install the transducer (4).
