who do this in the same way. I think the reason that people keep using religion is also because
then they are not forced to think it all through for themselves again.
Koray: People do need a common base to be belonged, this can be a tradition, membership, being
a fan of soccerteam, supporting a political party in the country one lives. But the first base to be
inside was religion in the world. One of the other major reasons was religions’ explanations for
the secret of the universe ofcourse. Religions destroy people’s curiosity.

Religion shapes the ethical values of a society and is shaped by them. Hence it influences
decision making processes within companies and governments.( David)
Philip
Of course it influences decision making. it influences our way of thinking. I do believe that
ethical values shaped the religion and not the other way around.
Bob
I think that in modern society (with its supposed – by me – laicism) one should look at the ethical
values underlying a religion instead of the whole religion with all its complications. I also agree
with Philip to some extend that ethical values should shape religion and not the other way around.
Dietrich
There are some people around who offer their services as "consultants on ethics" to business:
whether to build a motorway through protected areas, to build certain arms or technology harmful
to – they base their thinking on the Christian traditions.

Religion is shaped by the ethical values but religion made people follow these rules (that they
agreed on) before laws were created. I think religion has just as many effects on a governor as on
any other people, but for the government it is a good way to manipulate people.
Nese
I think it is not just religion that is shaped by ethical values but also vice versa.
I totally agree with the part that decision making process within companies and governments is
effected by religions. Just as an example: For Unilever; one of the most important rules (as I
know from a friend of mine) is that "Unilever does not have a religion". However, I know that
since it already realised that the religion effects the organisations, it says there is no religion in
the company which also effects the religious people organisation in an opposite and different
way somehow.
Koray
Religions were supposed to be kind of a tool for decision making for all centuries, for both,
governments and individuals. It is still for a specific kind of believers and governments around
the world but it is not in companies; profit is the latest religion. I also agree with David about the
relation between religion and ethical values.
Aron
I do not think that big companies always change their schedules or working rules. If that happens
it is already a great thing, but in my point of view this only happens at a few places.
Juli
In a cultural way it probably does. (E.g. way of thinking or when the holidays are) But generally I
do not think that it has not a big influence on making decisions because decisions are made by
people and each and every individual is different so the way they think, their opinions are
different and so can their decision making be.

The function of religions in a social and a political perspective so far and at present(KORAY)
In social aspect-1: The function of the laws we have at present(Juli, Agi,David)
In social aspect-2: Dividing societies into pieces(Nese, Bob)
In social aspect-3: coping with reality and share it with others(Bob)
Political aspect-1: Holding the society together and keep together against enemies(Juli, Nese,
Dietrich, Agi, Aron)

JULI: I would like to say in the past it had a much bigger role in people’s lives than today. Social
function: cultural(the books being printed, reading, writing) probably helping people coordinating
their life.
Political function: holding a nation together. (e.g. : when a country is being established it is easier
to do so, when the people living there have something in common, religion helps to coordinate,
lead, etc…)
DIETRICH: Religions has often united all people for one goal, mostly for a war against their
neighbours, sometimes also to discover new land and settle there
AGI: I think religion has the same function if present as it had so far, to control and lead people.
As we know, every sociaty needs rules and religion makes it easier to people to follow them. In
political perspective, it had the same function. Politicians(or ‘pope’s) could easly lead people to
achive their goals getting more and more power and becoming very richer.
Nowadays, laws took the social function of religion, but as they took their values from
