NOT COMPLETE MAY OCCUR.
(a)
Using the Manual Applicator (P05-360), apply a large bead of urethane adhesive along the full length of the inside edge of the leading edge shield.
(b)
Remove the Mixing Nozzle (P05-361) from the Urethane Adhesive Cartridge (P08-038).
(c)
Install the cap on the Urethane Adhesive Cartridge (P08-038).
NOTE: The cartridge can be used again if the cap is correctly
____ installed to prevent the adhesive from hardening.
(d) Push the leading edge shield over the leading edge of the fan exit guide vane.
NOTE: The leading edge shield is correctly in position when
____ the aft edges align with the pencil marks on the vane surfaces.
(e)
Use Unsized Cheesecloth (P05-038) to remove any unwanted urethane adhesive from the leading edge shield and vane surfaces. 1) You must make the adhesive smooth between the edges of the
leading edge shield and vane surface all around (Fig. 810).
(f)
Tightly wind several lengths of Masking Tape (P05-145) at three (3) locations around the vane cord.
NOTE: This will hold the leading edge shield in position
____ during the cure time for the adhesive.
(g)
Examine the leading edge shield for unwanted adhesive.
1) Use Unsized Cheese cloth (P05-038) to remove any unwanted urethane adhesive from the leading shield and the vane surfaces.
(h)
After 100 percent bond strength is achieved, lightly tap along the solid metal leading edge shield with a small piece of metal to check for a complete bond between the leading edge shield and the fan exit guide vane.
NOTE: It is recommended that a small diameter steel rod be
____ used for this check.
1) If a solid sound is heard, the bond in that area is satisfactory.

2) If a hollow sound is heard, the bond in that area is unsatisfactory. a) If the unsatisfactory bond areas are less than 20
percent of the leading edge shield surface area, the vane is serviceable.
b) If the unsatisfactory bond areas are 20 percent or more of the leading edge shield surface area, the vane is unserviceable and the complete procedure must be done again.
(i)
After the cure is complete and an acceptable bond is achieved, remove the Masking Tape (P05-145) from all three locations.

Post Repair Inspection
S 218-170-N00
(1)
First inspection post repair:
(a)
Inspect repaired vane(s) after the first flight following the repair. 1) If leading edge shield is not in place, this repair should
be repeated at the earliest opportunity.
(b)
Inspection at every "A" Check:
1) Inspect the repaired vane(s) at every "A" Check to make sure that the leading edge shield remains in place. a) If the leading edge shield is not in place, replace by
repeating this repair procedure or by the incorporation of SB PW4ENG 72-591 fan exit guide vane(s).
