ENGINES POST-PW-SB 72-438; Make the tabs of the key washers (28B) flat to remove the key washers (28B) and and the bolts (28A) that attach the angle gearbox (11) to the intermediate case. 1) Discard the key washers (28B).

Remove the bolt (28D) and pin stop (28C) from each support bracket (27). 1) Discard the pin stop (28C).

Remove the angle gearbox with the PWA 101035 Jackscrew Puller:
1) Install the PWA 101035 Jackscrew Puller between the 5th-and 6th-stage strut of the intermediate case and attach the puller to the inner strut flanges with the four hex head cap screws.
2) Attach the PWA 101035 Jackscrew Puller arms to the support brackets (27) with the detail bolts (28D).
3) Move the two arm assemblies of the jackscrew puller to the outer position and tighten the two bolts to lock the arms in position.
4) Turn the large jackscrew nut to disengage the angle gearbox (11) from the intermediate case. 5) Lower the angle gearbox (11) and install it on the support stand. 6) Remove the four hex head cap screws that attach the PWA 101035 Jackscrew Puller to the inner strut flanges. 7) Remove the packing (18) from the top of the angle gearbox and discard. 8) If you will install a different angle gearbox, remove the support bracket (27) from each side of the angle gearbox. 9) Install covers on all open areas.
(l) Remove the angle gearbox with the PWA 87502 Knocker Puller (optional to the PWA 101035 Jackscrew Puller): 1) Attach the PWA 87502 Puller to the angle gearbox support
brackets (27) with the detail bolts (28D). 2) With the puller, loosen the angle gearbox (11) from the intermediate case. 3) Lower the angle gearbox (11) and install it on the support stand. 4) Remove the packing (18) from the top of the angle gearbox and discard. 5) If you will install a different angle gearbox, remove the support bracket (27) from each side of the angle gearbox. 6) Install covers on all open areas.

Remove the horizontal drive shaft (20) and the housing (5) of the horizontal drive shaft from the main gearbox (Fig. 401).

Remove and discard the packing (23) from the rear groove in the housing (5) of the horizontal drive shaft.
