Repair the Airfoil of the Vane (Fig. 810)

NOTE: In this procedure, the words "damage" and "repair area" are not
____
the same thing. The repair area is larger than the area of the
damage. The repair area includes the area that you clean, sand,
 and put the patch.

 S 148-161-N00
 (1)
Remove the damaged pieces:

 (a)
Lightly hit the surface of the vane, around the damage, to find the quantity of delamination.

NOTE: An area of delamination makes a sound with a lower
____
 frequency than the other areas.

 (b)
With a grease pencil, or other correct marker, make a mark around the perimeter of the damaged area.

 (c)
Mechanically remove the damaged and loose material, which includes loose or torn wire mesh.

on the vane surface where the leading edge shield stops.

 (c)
Remove the leading edge shield from the fan exit guide vane.

 S 338-163-N00
CAUTION: IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE SURFACES THAT ARE BONDED FREE FROM
_______ CONTAMINATION. USE PLASTIC POLYETHYLENE GLOVES (P05-198) TO HELP PREVENT SURFACE DAMAGE.
 (3)
Clean the repair area and metal leading edge shield:

 (a)
Clean the repair area with a soft brush and Isopropyl Alcohol (P11-014A) (See Figure 810 for the applicable cleaning areas). 1) Air dry for 15 minutes.

 (b)
Clean the inner area of the metal leading edge:
 1) Wet an unsized Cheese Cloth (P05-038) with Isopropyl
 Alcohol (P11-014).
 2) Using the wet Cheese Cloth, clean the inner area of the

 metal leading edge.
 3) Air dry the metal leading edge for 15 minutes.

 (c)
Air dry the metal leading edge shield for 15 minutes.

 S 948-164-N00
 (4)
Assemble the adhesive cartridge and mixing nozzle:

 (a)
Put the Urethane Adhesive Cartridge (P08-038) into the Manual Applicator (P05-360).

 (b)
Remove the cap from the Urethane Adhesive Cartridge (P08-038).

NOTE: Keep the urethane cartridge cap for replacement on the
____ cartridge after completion of this repair. The urethane cartridge is reusable since mixing occurs only in the nozzle.
 (c)  Using the Manual Applicator (P05-360), put a 2.00 inch
(50.800 mm) bead of urethane onto a disposable container. 1) Make sure there is a good mix in the nozzle.
NOTE: The adhesive has a 20 minute work life before
____ initial set-up occurs. The nozzle should be replaced if dispensing becomes too difficult because of hardening in the nozzle.
 S 338-165-N00
 (5)  Bond the applicable leading edge shield to the vane (Fig. 810).
