_______ THE DRAIN PLUG . IF YOU DO NOT HOLD THE BUSHING WITH THE WRENCH, THE BUSHING CAN BECOME TOO TIGHT.
 a)  Tighten the plug at the 6 o'clock position to 110-120 pound-inches (12.4-13.6 newton-meters) and install some lockwire.
 b)  Tighten the plug at the 4 o'clock position to 150-170 pound-inches (17.0-19.2 newton-meters) and install some lockwire.
 (b)  
If you find oil leakage around the probe, do this task:
 "EEC Oil Temperature Thermocouple Probe Removal"
 (AMM 73-21-10/401).
 1) Examine the packing for damage.


 (c)  
Examine the main gearbox, the oil pump, and the oil tank for
 oil leaks from the magnetic chip detectors (MCD) (Fig. 602).

 

 NOTE: The shape of the MCD probe and the quantity of packings
____ can be different from what is shown in the Fig. 602.
 1)  If the leak comes from between the MCD probe and the MCD housing, replace the packing on the probe and, if applicable, the packing on the housing (AMM 79-21-10/401).
 2)  If the leak comes from between the MCD housing and the port, replace the packing on the housing (AMM 79-21-10/401).
 (d)  Examine the oil tank for leaks.
 1)  If there is a leak from the oil tank cap, do this task: "Cap Assembly Repair" (AMM 79-11-03/201).

 (6)  
Examine the main gearbox for cracks.

 (a)  
If there are signs of oil leakage from a crack, replace the
 engine (AMM 71-00-02/401).


 (7)  
Examine the main gearbox for signs of corrosion:

 CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 CAUTION:_______ MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN ALL OF THE HYDRAULIC FLUID ON THE MAIN
 GEARBOX.  HYDRAULIC FLUID CAN CAUSE CORROSION ON THE

 ALUMINUM GEARBOX HOUSING.
 (a)  
Use a cloth that is moist with the solvent to clean all the dried hydraulic fluid from the main gearbox.

 (b)  
Areas with corrosion that are less than 0.050 inch (0.127 mm) in depth are permitted.

 (c)  
The main gearbox is serviceable if the conditions that follow occur: 1) The corrosion goes below the surface less than 0.050 inch


 (1.27 mm).
 2)  The corrosion goes below the surface 0.050 inch (1.27 mm) and not deeper. a) The area of the corrosion is less than 1.00 square inch
 (645 square mm). b) The area with corrosion is more than 2.00 inches
 (50.80 mm) away from other corrosion.
 3)  If the corrosion is worse than these conditions, replace the engine (AMM 71-00-02/401).

 (8)  Fill the engine oil if you drained the oil (AMM 12-13-03/301).

 (9)  Close the thrust reversers (AMM 78-31-00/201).
