 A. This procedure contains one task, Broken EGT Harness Isolation.
 B. Do this task only when more than six probes operate correctly.

 E. Procedure

 (1)  
Open the thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (2)  
Move the two ends of the broken harness apart:

 (a)  
Cut through the parts of the rigid harness or the chromel/alumel wires where the rigid harness is broken.

 (b)  
Move the rigid harness until it can not touch where it is broken.

 (c)  
Move the chromel/alumel wires apart from each other and from the sides of the rigid harness.

 (3)  Install the heat-shrink sleeve:
 (a)  
Cut a 2 inch (50 mm) piece of heat-shrink sleeve.

 (b)  
Push the sleeve on the broken rigid harness.

 (c)  
Make sure the sleeve more than extends 0.4 inch (10 mm) from the end of the broken rigid harness.

 (d)  
Apply heat to the sleeve with a heat gun until the sleeve is tight around the rigid harness.

 (e)  
When the sleeve is hot, squeeze (with flat-nose pliers) the end of the sleeve that does not cover the harness.

 (f)  
Attach the broken harness to the harness that is nearest to it.

 CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE WITH A REPAIRED HARNESS FOR MORE THAN 150 FLIGHT
_______ HOURS. YOU MUST REPLACE A REPAIRED HARNESS, OR YOU CAN GET AN INCORRECT EGT INDICATION.
 (4)  
Attach the broken end of the harness to the nearest harness with a piece of lockwire in the sleeve (Fig. 201):

 (a)
Cut approximately 32 inches (800 mm) of lockwire that has a

 0.03 inch (0.8 mm) diameter.

 (b)  
Fold the lockwire in half to get a double wire that has a length of approximately 16 inches (400 mm).

 (c)  
Twist the double wire with four twists for each inch.

 (d)  
Install the lockwire into a piece of heat-shrink sleeve that has a length of approximately 10 inches (250 mm). 1) Make sure that approximately the same length of lockwire

 extends from each end of the sleeve.

 (e)  
Move the sleeve with the wire on the sleeve that is installed on the end of the broken harness. 1) Do not cover the full length of sleeve on the broken end of

 the harness.

 (f)  
Apply heat to the full length of heat-shrink sleeve with a heat gun.

 (g)  
Put the broken end of the harness against the nearest conduit.

 (h)  
Wind the sleeve with the lockwire round the two harnesses.

 (i)  
Connect and twist the two ends of the lockwire.

 

 (5)  
Do a visual inspection of the remaining rigid harness and probes.

 (6)  
Do the EGT Indicating System Test (AMM 77-21-00/501).

 (7)  
Close the thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).
