 D. Procedure
 S 162-029-C00
 (1)  Do these steps to prepare for the installation:
 (a)  
Apply a layer of petrolatum on a new O-ring.

 (b)  
Fully clean the probe pole pieces on the N1 speed sensor with a clean, dry cloth.

 (c)  
Remove the magnetic particles with a piece of adhesive tape.

 (d)  
Remove the protective cap from the electrical connector.

 (2)  Do these steps to install the N1 speed sensor (Fig. 201):
 (a)  
Install the O-ring on the guide tube.

 (b)  
Carefully install the N1 speed sensor on the fan frame.


 NOTE: The N1 speed sensor has a spring to keep it in its

 position.

 (3)  Make sure the N1 speed sensor has the correct clearance.
 (a)  Measure the clearance between the probe flange of the N1 speed sensor and the fan frame sleeve.
 CAUTION:  MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE N1 SPEED SENSOR WITH THE CORRECT
_______ CLEARANCE. IF THE CLEARANCE IS NOT CORRECT, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE N1 SENSOR.
 (b)  
If the clearance is not 0.118-0.236 inch (3.0-6.0 mm), remove the N1 speed sensor and look for damage (distortion, incorrect orientation of sensor).

 (c)  
If you cannot install the N1 speed sensor with the correct clearance, replace the N1 speed sensor.

 (4)  Install the bolts in the sensor:
 (a) Apply a thin layer of antiseize compound to the bolts.
 (b) Install the two bolts in the sensor.
 1) Tighten the bolts to 100-110 pound-inches (11-12 N.m).
 2) Tighten one bolt and then the other, in increments, to make
 sure you do not bend the N1 speed sensor.

 (5)  Connect the electrical cable to the N1 speed sensor:
 (a) Attach the electrical connector and turn the knurled coupling
 ring while you move the backshell assembly back and forward.
 (b) Tighten the electrical connector with your hand.
 (c) Then, tighten the electrical connector with connector pliers
 that have padded jaws.
 (d) Make sure the electrical connector is correctly installed; it
 must not move.

 (6)  Close the fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).

 (7)  Do this task "Operational Test of the N1 Tachometer System"
 (AMM 77-12-00/501).
 (a) Do the leak check for engine operation at 70% N1 as shown in
 the Test Reference Table (AMM 71-00-00/501).
