C. Prepare to Examine the Firewall and Fireseal

(1) Remove the power plant (AMM 71-00-02/401).

(2) Remove the strut access doors along the bottom of the strut
(AMM 54-31-01/401).Examine the Strut Fireseal and Heat Shield Blankets

(1) Examine the heat shield blankets on the strut. Look for crack, tears, damage, deterioration, parts which are loose or gone.
(a)
Look for cracks, tears, damage, deterioration, and parts which are loose or gone.
(b)
If you find any of the above damage, replace the heat shield blanket.

(2) Examine the hydraulic fitting connection on the fan cowl support beam.
(a) Make sure fitting flanges are covered with sealant.
NOTE: Make sure the sealant covers the area between the flange
____ and the heat shield blanket. The sealant should be about 0.10-0.15 inches in thickness.
Examine the Strut Firewall.

(1) Examine the structure for cracks, nicks, dents or other damage (SRM 54-50-02).
(a) If you find these conditions, repair the firewall.

(2) Examine the top surface of the firewall for contamination.
(a) If you find contamination, clean the top surface of the firewall.

(3) Examine the drain tubes at the aft of the strut for damage.
(a) If the drain tubes are damaged, replace them.

(4) Examine the drain inlets for blockage.
(a) If the drain inlets were blocked, examine the strut drain tube
and sealant (AMM 54-11-00/601).Put the airplane back to its usual condition.

_______ STRUT CAVITIES. IF OBJECTS ARE IN THE STRUT COMPARTMENTS, THEY CAN STOP THE REMOVAL OF THE FLUIDS THROUGH THE STRUT DRAINS. IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE UNWANTED MATERIALS, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE STRUT.

Remove all tools and unwanted materials from the strut cavities before you install the access doors.

Install the access doors on the strut (AMM 54-31-01/401).

Install the power plant (AMM 71-00-02/401).
