 D.  Do the test of the latch with a Torque Adapter and Pivot Support Assembly or a Dial Pull Gage.
 NOTE: The Torque Adapter and Pivot Support Assembly procedure is the

 preferred alternative to the Dial Pull Gage procedure.

Airplanes with pressure relief doors that have spring loaded over center release hinges, do a release load check (Fig. 201, Sh. 3).

Attach the tool adapter assembly to the pressure relief door latch with two screws, washers and nuts finger tight (Fig. 201 Sh. 3).

Attach the pivot support assembly and torque wrench to the adapter assembly.

With the torque wrench handle parallel to door edge, turn the handle until the latch releases, noting the torque required.

Compare the torque just noted with the requirements.


 NOTE: The adapter tool assembly increases torque applied to the
____ latch by a factor of two (2x). For example, a release load of 55 pounds requires a torque wrench setting of 27.5 pound-inches.

 E. To replace the latch, do these steps:
 S 422-050-B00
 (1) Put the replacement latch, shims and wear plate on the door sill.
 (a)  Make sure the finished side of the wear plate is against the shims.

Install the bolts, washers and nuts.

 (3)  
Do a release check of the repaired door assembly.

If the load is within limits, close the door (AMM 54-31-01/401).


 F. Dial Pull Gage procedure:

 (1)  
Open the pressure relief door of the forward fairing (Fig. 201) (AMM 54-31-01/401).

Turn the screwdriver clockwise to put the latch bolt in the closed position.

Turn the screwdriver clockwise for 5 degrees more.


 (a)  With the closed position at 0 degrees and the fully open position at 45 degrees, this puts the latch bolt in the -5 degree position.

Remove the screwdriver from the latch handle slot.

 (5)  
Tightly hold the pressure relief door.

 (6)  
With the dial gage, slowly pull the latch bolt open with a constant force (Fig. 201).

Do a check that the force to move the latch bolt from the -5° position to more than +5° position is 45-55 pounds (195-245 Newtons).

If the force is more or less than the limits, replace the latch.
