NACELLE STRUT ATTACH PIN/BOLT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure has instructions for the removal/installation of the strut pins/bolts with the engine removed or installed. If a midspar fuse bolt is to be removed, the two upper link pins and the two diagonal brace pins must stay installed. Only one midspar fuse bolt is to be removed at a time. The two upper link pins or the two diagonal brace pins can be removed at the same time, but only one link can be free at a time (unless the nacelle strut is to be removed).
B. The removal of the strut pins/bolts has these steps:
(1)
Get access to the pin/bolt to be removed.
(2)
Remove the load from the pin/bolt.
(3)
Remove the pin/bolt.
C. The installation of the pins/bolts has these steps:
(1)
Examine the pin/bolt for corrosion.
(2)
Install the pin/bolt.
(3)
Do a test of the strut systems.
D. You can use this procedure to remove or replace a diagonal brace or an upper link as follows:
(1)
Remove all cables or tubes attached with a clamp to the applicable brace or link.
(2)
Remove the forward and aft pins of the brace or link.
(3)
Remove and replace the brace or link.
(4)
Install the forward and aft pins in the brace or link.
(5)
Install all cables or tubes which attach with a clamp to the applicable brace or link.
(6)
If an optional (custom fitted) diagonal brace is replaced, follow the steps for an optional diagonal brace.
E. Care must be used to avoid the application of excessive lifting forces. Dynamometers must be used in the lift configuration.
F. Obey these precautions while you remove/install the pin/bolt:
(1)
Electrical power must stay off when the fuel, hydraulic, and electrical lines are being disconnected from or connected to the strut.
(2)
During the removal or installation of the power plant, all openings must be sealed with approved caps. When you remove the power plant, seal all tube ends, ducts and electrical connectors with an approved cap as soon as possible after you disconnect them. When you install the power plant, do not remove the caps until immediately before you connect them. Use external caps only, not internal plugs.
