Find the drain exit in the heat shield assembly.

Put a dry container below the heat shield assembly drain exit.

Do the drainage check as follows:
(a)
With a funnel and hose, put 2 U.S. gallons (256 fluid ounces) of clean tap water into the forward end of the strut midspar.
(b)
Apply the water approximately 50 percent on the two sides (left and right sides) of the strut midspar.
(c)
Stop approximately 6 minutes.
(d)
Make sure that the water collected at the drain exit is no less than 240 fluid ounces. 1) If not, examine for the sources of leakage as follows:
a) Examine the strut area. b) Examine the strut drain line.

(e) Make sure the strut midspar area is clear of the blockage and contamination.

Remove the fairing at the inboard forward end of the strut fairing.
(2)
Find the drain exit in the heat shield assembly (Fig. 601).

Put a dry container below the heat shield assembly drain exit.

Do the drainage check as follows:
(a)
With a funnel and hose, put 1 U.S. quart (32 fluid ounces) of clean tap water to the aft face of the midspar closeout web.
(b)
Stop approximately 3 minutes.
(c)
Make sure that the water collected at the drain exit is no less than 26 fluid ounces. 1) If not, examine the sources of leakage as follows:
a) Examine the strut area. b) Examine the strut drain line. 2) Repair the sources of leakage, if it is necessary.
(d)
Make sure the strut closeout web is clear of the blockage and contamination.
