NOTE: If you must use the fuel boost pumps in the
____ center tank, you must have a maintenance person or observer in the flight compartment to continuously monitor the LOW PRESSSURE lights. Turn the applicable fuel boost pump to the OFF position if the LOW PRESSURE light for the center tank stays on.

(7) Do the test for the engine start, acceleration, operation and automatic controls:
WARNING: DO NOT OPERATE THE APU WITH THE LOWER SHROUD REMOVED IF
_______ PERSONS ARE IN OR DIRECTLY BELOW THE APU COMPARTMENT. YOU MUST BE A MINIMUM OF THREE FEET AWAY FROM THE OUTER EDGE OF THE APU COMPARTMENT OPENING TO OPERATE THE APU WITH THE LOWER SHROUD REMOVED. AN APU TURBINE WHEEL SEPARATION DURING OPERATION CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO PERSONS.
(a) APUs WITHOUT ALLIEDSIGNAL SB GTCP85-49-7096; If you must operate the APU with the lower shroud removed, make sure all persons are not in the hazard area (AMM 49-11-00/201).
NOTE: APUs with AlliedSignal SB GTCP85-49-7096 have an
____ external shield around the turbine plenum and have no hazard area.
(b) Remove the DO-NOT-OPERATE tag and set the APU master switch on the P5 forward overhead panel to the START position.
NOTE: If the APU master switch is set to the ON position
____ and the air inlet door fully opens before the APU master switch is set to the START position, the APU will not start. The APU will not start because the CLOSE coil of the start and stop relay K1 will not energize.
(c) Monitor the tester to make sure these conditions occur during the APU start: 1) The low oil pressure light (17) comes on immediately. 2) The starter light (19) comes on when the air inlet door
fully opens and the starter operates.
3) The engine starts and operates smoothly as shown by these instruments: a) The oil pressure gage (8). b) The engine speed indicator (15). c) The control-air pressure gage (12). d) The fuel pressure gage (2). e) The ignition light (26) will come on. f) The EGT indicator (7) [you must operate the EGT
transfer switch (27)].
4) When the oil pressure on the gage (8) reads 3.5-4.5 psig (24.1-31.0 kPa), these conditions occur: a) The ignition unit energizes as shown by the ignition
light (26).

b) The fuel solenoid valve opens to permit fuel flow as shown on the gage (2).
NOTE: This also shows the satisfactory operation
____ of the sequencing pressure switch for the oil.
5) When the engine speed indicator (15) shows 50% engine speed, this condition occurs: a) The electronic speed switch operates to disconnect the
starter motor circuit as shown when the light (19) goes off.
6) The oil pressure light (17) goes off when the gage (8) shows an oil pressure of 45-55 psig (310.2-379.1 kPa). a) This shows a satisfactory operation of the low oil
pressure switch.
7) The gage (8) shows an oil pressure of 90-100 psig (620.4-689.3 kPa) when the indicator (15) shows an engine speed of 75% rpm. a) The oil pressure must stay at 90-100 psig (620.4-689.3
kPa) during the engine operation with a speed of 75% rpm or more. b) The oil pressure must not change more than 3 psig
(20.7 kPa) during the stable APU operation.
8) These conditions occur when the indicator (15) shows an engine speed of 95% rpm: a) The electronic speed switch stops the ignition as shown
when the ignition light (26) goes off. b) The electronic speed switch energizes the elapsed time indicator as shown when the light (28) comes on. 9) The speed becomes stable at 102.5% rpm maximum as shown on the indicator (15).
(d)
Set the APU master switch on the P5 forward overhead panel to the OFF position and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.
(e)
Set the BAT switch on the P5 forward overhead panel to the OFF position.
