 (1)  You must do this task if EGT is more than the red line (760°C) during the APU start and acceleration.

 (1)  Set the switch and the circuit breaker:
 (a)  
Set the APU master switch on the P5 forward overhead panel to the OFF position and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.

 (b)  
Open this circuit breaker and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag: 1) E3-3 Electrical Shelf, APU Control Unit

 (2)  Open the APU cowl door:
 (a)  Open the latches for the APU cowl door.

Open the APU cowl door.

 (c)  
Connect the door support rods.

 CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE THE LOWER SHROUD. DAMAGE TO THE SHROUD DRAIN LINES CAN OCCUR.
 (3)  Remove the lower shroud:
 (a)  
Hold the lower shroud and open the shroud latches.

 (b)  
Remove the lower shroud.

Remove the combustor unit (AMM 49-31-42/401).

Visually examine the turbine wheel and the nozzle guide vanes for signs of damage:

 (a)  
Examine the turbine wheel tips for erosion or burns.

 (b)  
Examine the turbine wheel blades for erosion or worn areas.

 (c)  
Inspect the nozzle guide vanes and the torus assembly for erosion.

 (d)  
If the inspection shows damage, you must remove the APU power plant (AMM 49-11-00/401).

Install the combustor unit (AMM 49-31-42/401).

Replace the fuel control unit (AMM 49-31-11/401).

 Make sure the fuel drains are not blocked (AMM 49-16-11/701 and 49-31-71/601).
