acceptance, completion of
manufacturing or export flights,
registration is not required with
written authorisation.
Any Canadian over 16 can be a
registered owner, as can an entity
formed under the laws of Canada or
a province.
An aircraft can be registered as:
Air Law 59
·  a state aircraft, i.e. a civil one
owned and exclusively used by a
government in Canada.
·  a commercial aircraft, for Aerial
Work, Air Taxi, Commuter or
Airline operations, or in a flight
training unit.
·  a private aircraft.
A provisional registration can be
issued for importation, or a
temporary one if the paperwork is
not yet available. If it is, a continuing
registration may be issued, and an
interim registration is automatic,
once only, if the new owner is
qualified and any part of custody and
control is transferred, or any
information, such as change of
address, etc. is changed.
Identity for Registration Purposes
Usually from the fuselage or hull, so
when they are scrapped, the aircraft
officially ceases to exist. A balloon
takes its identity from its envelope.
Certificates of Registration - 202.25
These can be provisional, temporary,
interim or continuing. A temporary one
is for when there is no paperwork
for a continuing one, and it expires
or is cancelled on the earliest of:
·  the date in the temporary
certificate
·  the last day of the three months
(90 days) after the issue date
·  the day there is a change in legal
custody and control
·  when a continuing C of R is
issued.
The C of R has five parts, and must
always be carried, unless the machine
is registered in a non-contracting
foreign state or one with an
agreement that allows it to do so, in
which case an authorisation must be
issued. Part 1 (white) is the
certificate itself, Part 2 (white) is the
application, Part 3 (pink) is the
change of ownership form, Part 4
(white) is an interim certificate and
Part 5 is the change of address card.
As well as the above, the C of R of a
Canadian aircraft is cancelled where:
·  a registered owner dies, is
dissolved or amalgamated with
another, or is not qualified.
·  the lease is extended and TC is
not told within 7 days
·  the address is changed and TC
is not told within 7 days
·  unless it is undergoing
restoration or is an ultra-light,
the aircraft has not been flown
in the last 5 years
·  an aircraft registered as an ultralight
is no longer one
·  custody & control documents
cease to be in effect, unless the
registered owner retains custody
and control afterwards and
submits notification (including
the day it ceased), and a true
copy of the new document,
within 60 days.
·  an aircraft is destroyed,
permanently withdrawn, missing
(with search terminated) or has
been missing over 60 days. TC
must be notified within 7 days
of your becoming aware.
·  there is misrepresentation or
fraudulent documentation in the
original application.

Interim Registration -
202.36/222.36
The new owner (or registered
owner, if just changing
information) must complete the
back of the C of R, send the
Continuing one to Transport,
and retain the Interim on board.
C of R Lost or Destroyed - 202.27
It may be replaced on written
application from the registered
owner, if the requirements
continue to be met.
Amendment or Replacement
Transport Canada may request
the return of a C of R for
amendment or replacement,
within 7 days of receipt.
Route Guides & IFR Charts
You need a route guide so you can
get around the airways without
messing things up for anybody else.
Any used must be the current ones,
as amended. Although the symbols
and keys are generally printed on
them, it is still a good idea to know
at least the basic ones for use in
flight in a hurry. Because they are
included, they have not been
reproduced in this book.
The Low Altitude charts (LO) are
meant to be used up to 17,999 feet
in Canadian Domestic Airspace, and
anywhere else Canada has
responsibility. There are 10, on 5
sheets, back to back.
Terminal Area charts come on both
sides of one sheet, also valid up to
