Class D loads at night
Must have a landing or search light
controllable through 45° either side
of the forward longitudinal axis, and
a radio altimeter with an altitude
alert function. The operation must
follow Section 702.21(1).
The pick-up and delivery sites must
be lit so the perimeter and
obstructions can be seen. Crew
members and essential people must
be trained under Section 722.76 of
CASS. People must not be
transported externally between
points at night, and operational
restrictions and procedures must be
in the Ops Manual.
Single- or multi-engine unable to cope
with one engine out requirements
If the load does not extend below
the landing gear, there must be direct
communication among crew
members. The carrying device must
be approved, the helicopter turbine
powered with auto-ignition and a
chip detector. Only crew and people
essential during flight may be carried
and the Ops Manual must include
operational requirements,
procedures and qualification and
training requirements.
Where the load extends below the
landing gear, there must be direct
radio communication between the
crew, and the flight must be for law
enforcement, fire fighting or rescue
operations. The carrying device must
be airworthiness approved and
jettisonable. The helicopter must be
a turbine, with an auto-ignition and
chip detector system. Only crew and
people essential during flight may be
carried to the nearest suitable
landing site. A formal written
agreement must stipulate that only
suitably trained and qualified people
will be assigned, and the Ops
Manual must include operational
requirements and procedures, and
employee qualification and training
requirements.
Motion Pictures and Television filming
The aircraft must operate within
approved limitations, a co-ordinated
plan for each complete operation
must be developed, and everyone
involved know about the equipment
and be pre-flight briefed. Only crew
and people essential during flight
may be carried.
Rescue Service
Pilot Experience
At least 2,000 hours helicopter,
200 hours on initial type and 25
on types used thereafter. At
least 1,000 hours in the area if in
Designated Mountainous Areas
1 or 2 and have completed
training for Class D operations
under section 722.76.
Operations Control
A written agreement must
define the responsibility of PIC
and rescue specialists, required
operational capabilities and
scope, coordinated rescue
mission SOPs, mission
authorization and control
process, including
communication procedures, and
coordinated training programs
on at least an annual basis.
Built-up Area and Aerial Work
Zone - 702.22/722.22
You must submit an aerial work
zone plan to the appropriate
Transport Canada regional office at
Air Law 43
least 5 working days in advance. It
must include certification that the
municipality has been informed, the
purpose of the flights, dates and
times, location, type of aircraft,
altitudes and routes on a map,
procedures and precautions to
ensure that no hazard is created to
people or property on the surface,
including forced landing areas, and
the responsible person to contact.
For a helicopter carrying a
jettisonable external load, as above,
with a description and number of
the loads, and security arrangements.
If you will be operating to a roof
top, add safety precautions for
forced landings onto or load
penetration through it.
Crew Members At Controls
"Cruise" means between initial cruise
altitude and the beginning of descent
at destination. Providing the
procedures for handover of
responsibility are in SOPs, relief of a
crew member at the controls is
permitted as follows:
· A captain, first or second officer
or flight engineer may be
relieved at any time by the
equivalent if qualified on type
(see 705.106) and occupying the
same position.
· A captain may be relieved in the
cruise by a FO if qualified on
type, designated to act as PIC or
delegated with responsibility for
safe operation of the aeroplane
and has a valid ATPL.
· A First Officer may be relieved
by a captain in the cruise if
qualified on type.
· A second officer or a flight
