helicopters, and one counts for the

must be endorsed with the rating
before you can use it.
Knowledge
You must acquire a standard of
knowledge under the Flight Instructor
Standard—VFR OTT.
Experience

of which up to 5 may be done on the
ground. Training must be as per the
Flight Instructor Standard—VFR OTT.
Skill
You must reach the skill level in the
Flight Instructor Standard—VFR OTT.
Credits
If you hold, or have held, an
instrument rating, you will be issued
a VFR OTT rating upon request.
Credits for DND Applicants
If you hold, or have held, a Canadian
Forces Instrument Rating, you meet
the Knowledge, Experience and Skill
requirements above.
Credits for Foreign Applicants

have a second officer rating.
Knowledge/Experience
You must have passed a second

You must pass the appropriate flight

will be renewed from its last day),
and have at least 300 hours training

recommended at least 80% of
candidates for passes on the first

least 5 flight tests). If you renew
twice by another means, you must
take a flight test the third time. If the
rating is, or has been, valid in the
previous 12 months, you must pass
the appropriate test. If it has been
invalid for between 12-24 months,
you need a recommendation from a
Class 1 Instructor and must pass the
flight test. For over 24 months, you
must also pass the exam under
Knowledge (below) for the rating.
Ratings can be extended for up to 90
days if the application is made while
