A. Smoke Warning
If smoke occurs (Ref. 26-16-00):
-
the related red SMOKE/DISCH indication light 11WH or 12WH comes on,
-
the MASTER WARNING lights flash,
-a continuous repetitive chime is heard,
- on the ECAM upper display unit the related message
SMOKE FWD CARGO SMOKE
AGENT...........DISCH
or
SMOKE AFT CARGO SMOKE
AFT ISOL VALVE....OFF
AGENT...........DISCH
comes on.
If a smoke warning occurs, you have to lift the guard and to push the related DISCH pushbutton switch 3WX or 4WX. The cartridge at the bottle outlet detonates and the agent discharges into the applicable cargo-compartment. The contacts of the bottle pressure switch open and give a signal to the Smoke Detection Function within the CIDS Director (CIDS-SDF). The related DISCH indicator light 11WH or 12WH comes on. The CIDS-SDF also gives a signal to the Flight Warning Computer (FWC) and to the CFDS. The FWC changes the ECAM upper display to AGENT DISCH. The CFDS stores the low-pressure data.
B. Fault Condition The Smoke Detection Function within the CIDS Director continuously monitors the bottle pressure condition, the two cartridges and the wiring. A low-pressure fault causes: On the overhead panel 22VU:
-the DISCH indication lights to come on.
On the ECAM upper display unit:
-
SMOKE - FWD CRG BTL FAULT
-
SMOKE - AFT CRG BTL FAULT to come on.
On the glearshield panels:
-the MASTER CAUTION lights to come on.
In the cockpit:
-a single chime to sound.
A cartridge fault causes:
On the upper ECAM display unit:
-
SMOKE - FWD CRG BTL FAULT
-
SMOKE - AFT CRG BTL FAULT to come on.
The faults are also transmitted to the CFDS.

5. Test

A. System Test When you push the TEST pushbutton switch 13WH on the overhead panel 22VU, the SDCU does an automatic test. Smoke and bottle pressure drop conditions are simulated. Indications appear as follows: On the CARGO SMOKE panel 22VU:
-
the FWD and AFT SMOKE indication lights come on.
-
the FWD and AFT DISCH indication lights come on.
On the glearshield panel 130VU:
-
the MASTER WARNING lights come on.
In the cockpit:
-
the continuous repetitive chime is heard.
On the ECAM upper display unit, the messages:
-SMOKE FWD CARGO SMOKE
-AGENT...........DISCH
-SMOKE AFT CARGO SMOKE
-AFT ISOL VALVE....OFF
-AGENT...........DISCH
come on. When you release the TEST pushbutton switch 13WH, the DISCH indication light goes off with a time delay of approx. 2 s, and the SMOKE indication light goes off a delay time of approx. 10 s. The ECAM messages go off and will be automatically repeated with the warning indications, for approximately 6 s. (Ref. 26-16-00).
B. SDCU Power-up Test
