A. Replacement of the Discharge Indicator Disk
(1)
Remove the snap ring (5) from the housing (1).
(2)
Remove the retainer (4).
(3)
Remove and discard the packing (2). Use a pointed plastic or wooden dowel to do this.

B. Preparation for Installation
WARNING : USE SOLVENTS/CLEANING AGENTS, SEALANTS AND OTHER SPECIAL
_______ MATERIALS ONLY WITH A GOOD SUPPLY OF AIR. OBEY THE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. DO NOT GET THEM IN YOUR MOUTH. DO NOT SMOKE. DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS. THESE MATERIALS ARE POISONOUS, FLAMMABLE AND SKIN IRRITANT. GET MEDICAL HELP IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.
(1)
Make an inspection of the discharge indicator components.
(2)
Loosen the unwanted material from the internal surfaces, shoulders and grooves of the housing (1) with a stiff-bristle fiber brush.
(3)
Use a soft-bristle fiber brush with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-003) and clean all metallic parts. Pay special attention to the internal areas and grooves.
(4)
Dry all parts fully with a clean, lint-free cloth.

(1)
Install the new packing (2) in the internal face groove in the housing (1).
(2)
Install and align the new disc (3) and the retainer (4) over the installed packing (2).
(3)
Compress the retainer (4) onto the disc (3) and install the snap ring
(5) in its groove.

(1)
Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.
(2)
Remove the access platform(s).
(3)
Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.

3. Description

A. Fire Extinguishing System (Ref. Fig. 001) The cargo-compartment fire-extinguishing system has a fire extinguisher bottle for the FWD and AFT cargo-compartments. One fire extinguisher pipe connects the bottle with the FWD discharge nozzle and one pipe with the two nozzles in the AFT cargo-compartment. The nozzles are installed in the cargo-compartment smoke-detector cavities. Electrically-detonated cartridges fire the extinguisher bottle. One cartridge is installed for the FWD cargo-compartment and one for the AFT cargo-compartment. A safety relief device is attached to the bottle to prevent a pressure increase. Outside temperatures can cause a pressure increase. A pressure switch is also attached to the bottle. It monitors the discharge of the bottle.
