current. World regions may be changed at will from update to
update. Gaps may occur in the stored routes to replace revised
waypoints when a new data base is loaded.
A flashing waypoint signifies that, subsequent to the time the route
was created, the waypoint has been altered during an update
process that retains the same identifier. A waypoint identifier which
has been deleted from the data base or has moved more than 25 nm
will be replaced by a flashing GAP (*GAP*).
NOTE: Before starting an update, ensure that the DTU slot is
clear of any previous disks and the protector is removed.
Loading Data Base Disks
1. Press the ON key on the DTU. A 12 second self test will occur.
2. Press the DATA key to access DATA 1/4.
3. From the DATA MENU page, press the DISK line select key for
the DISK MENU page.
4. Press the DISK LOAD line select key. The first DISK LOAD
instruction page will be displayed. This page contains
instructions for completing the update.

Change 1
NOTE: On dual FMS installations, when FMSs are synchronized
to this page, data base will be loaded into both systems.
Load the disks in order, beginning with the Standard disk.
Insert the first disk and press CONTINUE line select key to continue
the update process. The CHECKING DISK TYPE page will display.
NOTE: Do not disturb the DTU or the FMS while the update is in
progress.
Press LOAD line select key. The ERASING MEMORY screen will
appear before loading begins.
NOTE: Should an error, which would prevent successful
completion of the load occur, a message will appear on
the DISK LOAD page.
CAUTION: PRESSING THE “CANCEL” LINE SELECT KEY AT
ANY TIME WILL ABORT THE DATA BASE LOAD.
THIS ACTION WILL DUMP THE NAV DATA BASE.

Change 1
When a field has completed loading, it will show RCVD. If a multiple
disk data base is being loaded, a prompt will appear at line select
key [5L] for loading the next disk.
Remove the first disk and insert the next disk and press LOAD line
select key. CHECKING DISK TYPE will display while it is
determined if the inserted disk is, in fact, the correct one. The DISK
LOAD page will then reappear.
Press LOAD line select key. When all standard disks have been
loaded, a TESTING prompt will appear at line select key [5R] for a
short period of time. After each standard data base is tested for
integrity, a PASS, FAIL or NONE will appear next to each data base.
FAIL indicates an unloaded or partially loaded data base. NONE
indicates that the data base does not exist. When all testing is
complete, the DISK LOAD screen will reappear.
If it is desired to load another disk, such as extended data or pilot
data, press LOAD NEXT line select key. Repeat the above process
until all disks have been loaded.

Change 1
After all disks have been loaded (standard, extended, pilot defined
and FMS flight plan), a CHECK ALL procedure should be performed.
NOTE: The CHECK ALL function verifies consistency between
standard, extended, pilot defined and FMS flight plan data
bases. Information that is inconsistent within the pilot
defined or FMS flight plan data bases will be either
modified or purged.
Press the CHECK ALL line select key to initiate the check all
function. (CHECKING) will appear and flash at line select key [5R].
NOTE: The CHECK ALL prompt will only be available if, upon
completion of nav data base load, that data base
automatically becomes the active data base. Loading a
nav data base which has a future effective date will NOT
generate a CHECK ALL prompt.
Press RETURN line select key. The display will return to the DISK
MENU page to load additional data as required.
Remove disk from DTU and turn off DTU.
Errors / Messages
The system provides annunciation of errors, which could occur
during the update process and prevent successful completion of the
data base load procedure. Errors are displayed as shown below.
COMMUNICATION ERROR: DTU STOPPED RESPONDING - Time
out waiting for DTU.
COMMUNICATION ERROR: FMS AND DTU ARE OUT OF SYNC -
The FMS received a response that was inappropriate.
COMMUNICATION ERROR: OPERATION ABORTED BY DTU -
DTU sent an unexpected command request.
