INTRODUCTION
This manual covers operation of software control number SCN 602
as it is used in Universal’s UNS-1B, UNS-1C, UNS-1Csp, UNS-1D
and UNS-1K (all of which are referred to as FMS herein).
The Flight Management System (FMS) is a fully integrated
navigation management system designed to provide the pilot with
centralized control for the aircraft's navigation sensors, computer
based flight planning, and fuel management. For certain aircraft
models, performance calculations of takeoff and landing V speeds
and engine settings are provided. These are obtained from digitized
AFM tables in the FMS. When the FMS is interfaced with certain
Collins Pro Line 4 Avionics System, the FMS becomes the
navigation control. Unique operational differences exist in this case
and are discussed in the applicable Pro Line 4 Supplement.
Sensors
The FMS accepts primary position information from short- and longrange
navigation sensor(s). Inputs from DME, VOR or TACAN,
Doppler, as well as up to five long range navigation sensors can be
utilized to determine the aircraft's position. Because each type of
navigation sensor has unique capabilities and functions, the type
and number of sensors can be tailored to optimize the user's specific
operational requirements. The user may choose from Loran C
(LCS), Omega/VLF (OSS), and laser or gyro referenced inertial
(IRS) navigation sensors. The FMS will also interface to several
varieties of GPS, namely the GPS-950, GPS-1000, GPS-1200, UNS
764-1 and UNS 764-2 combined GPS/OSS sensors, Trimble GPS
TASMAN sensor and the Honeywell YG1845 combined IRS/GPS
sensor. All configurations can use a multi-channel, scanning DME,
or Radio Reference Sensor (RRS). In addition to the navigational
inputs, the system also receives true airspeed and altitude
