NAV indicates the LCS is in the normal navigational mode. The LCS
is navigating with sufficient signals inside an LOA, or the LCS is
navigating outside an LOA after flying there from inside an LOA
provided continuous signal reception has been maintained since
before leaving the LOA.
FAILED indicates that the LCS failed initial self-test or an operational
failure is detected.
NONCERT indicates that the LCS is navigating outside the Loran
Operating Area (LOA) and the navigation computer is not utilizing
LCS for position determination.
SEARCH indicates that the LCS is searching for sufficient stations to
navigate.
INSIDE LOA indicates that the aircraft's present position is inside a
defined LOA. This status will be reported even if no stations are
being received.
OUTSIDE LOA indicates that the aircraft's present position is
outside a defined Loran Operating Area.
The remainder of the lines displayed on the LORAN page show the
Loran C chains (GRIs) in use. Up to three GRIs may be displayed.
The GRIs are always listed in ascending numerical order. A
maximum of two GRIs may be manually selected. A manually
selected GRI is denoted by the (M) displayed immediately after the
GRI. The letters after the GRI indicate which stations are in use. A
hyphen (-) indicates that the station is not being received, the cycle
is not being tracked, or the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) is
unacceptable. An asterisk (*) indicates the station is being received
but is not being used because the LCS has automatically deselected
the station so that it will not be used for position determination. This
may be caused by the station either being beyond the distance limit
or operating in the BLINK (warning) mode.

UNC LCS Loran C Operating Areas
Loran-C sensor (P/N 1040) software contains a "map" of the LOA
within which it is programmed to navigate. The version number of
the LOA in the LCS Address page. The LCS Address page is
accessed by pressing the NEXT or PREV keys while on the LCS
Status page. If starting a trip outside the LOA, the LCS will enter the
