Multiple Systems
In multiple system installations, an interconnection bus provides
communications between the FMSs. There is no “Master/Slave”
type relationship between the FMSs. Each system makes data
available (for example: Initialization, Flight Plan, Fuel) to other
interfaced system(s). Crossfill of this data can be initiated by the
sending or receiving system
Each system does; however, act as “Master” of its associated
sensors, even though that sensor may also be providing data to
another system. Typically, the on-side compass and air data
computer will supply heading and air data, while fuel flow data will be
shared by the systems.
Each FMS computes its own independent position using all available
navigation sensors and provides selected information to the
associated flight instruments. Each FMS also shares its best
computed position with the other system and continuously monitors
the other system's position output.
