Prepare to Install the SCU

 (1)  
Remove the protection caps from the SCU.

 (2)  
If you install a new SCU, do the steps that follow:

 (a)  
Lubricate a new gasket with the lubricating fluid.

 (b)  
Install the gasket on the adapter.

 (c)  
Install the adapter with the gasket to the SCU.


 1)  Tighten the adapter to 65-75 pound-inches (7.3-8.5 newton-meters).
 E.  Procedure

 (1)  
Install the SCU:

 (a)  
Put the SCU (M6848), with the receptacles to the rear, on the bracket.

 (b)  
Lubricate the threads of the bolts, which attach the SCU, with engine oil.

 (c)  
Attach the SCU to the brackets with the bolts and washers.


 1)  Tighten the bolts to 85-95 pound-inches (9.6-10.7 newton-meters).
 CAUTION: DO NOT CONNECT THE GROUND STRAP TO THE SCU IF:

THE STRAP HAS LOOSE MOUNTING LUGS

 -
THE STRAP STRANDS ARE BROKEN MORE THAN 25 PERCENT. A GROUND STRAP WITH LOOSE MOUNTING LUGS OR BROKEN STRANDS CAN CAUSE UNSATISFACTORY LIGHTNING PROTECTION.


 (d)  
Examine the ground strap and its mountings for damage and wear.

 1)  Replace the ground strap if the mounting lugs are loose or more than 25 percent of the strands are broken.

 (e)  
Lubricate the threads of the bolt , which attaches the ground strap, with engine oil.

 (f)  
Attach the ground strap to the top, aft end of the SCU with the bolt. 1) Tighten the bolt to 85-95 pound-inches (9.6-10.7


 newton-meters).

(g)  Remove the protection caps from the electrical connectors and the programming plug.
 CAUTION: USE THE CORRECT ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE, AND TOOLS, FOR THE
_______ INSTALLATION OF THE PROGRAMMING PLUG AND HARNESS CONNECTOR (AMM 70-24-05/201). IF YOU USE THE INCORRECT ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE, OR TOOLS, A DAMAGED OR LOOSE CONNECTOR CAN OCCUR. A LOOSE CONNECTOR PERMITS VIBRATION, WHICH CAUSES THE CONTACTS TO WEAR AND DECREASES THE LIGHTNING PROTECTION.
 (h)  
Connect the J1, J2, J3, and J5 electrical connectors and the programming plug (J4) to the applicable receptacles on the SCU (AMM 70-24-05/201).

 CAUTION:_______DO NOT LUBRICATE THE PT2.5 HOSE CONNECTOR. A LUBRICANT ON THE PT2.5 HOSE CONNECTOR CAN CAUSE CONTAMINATION OF THE SCU.

 (i)  
Connect the PT2.5 hose to the adapter at the bottom of the SCU.


 1)  Use a wrench to hold the adapter and tighten the hose connector to 270-300 pound-inches (30.5-33.9 newton-meters).

Close the right fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-04/201).
