Open the core cowl panels (AMM 71-11-06/201).

Open the thrust reversers (AMM 78-31-00/201).

Remove the starter (AMM 80-11-01/401).

If necessary, to get easier access to the EEC alternator stator (17), remove the deoiler outlet tube (32) as follows (Fig. 401):
(a)
Remove the three bolts (22) which attach the deoiler outlet tube (32) to the rear of the main gearbox.
(b)
ENGINES POST-PW-SB 72-375; Do the steps that follow: 1) Disconnect the stator cables (17) from the clips in the
bracket (23) that is attached to the flange of the deoiler outlet tube (32). 2) Remove the bracket (23) from the flange of the tube (32).
(c)
Remove the bolts (24, 27), nuts (25), and clamps (26) which attach the deoiler outlet tube (32) to the M and N flanges.
(d)
Loosen the clamp (28) which attaches the main filter oil tube (29) to the front flange of the deoiler outlet tube (32).
(e)
Move the bracket (30) away from the flange of the deoiler outlet tube (32).
(f)
Remove the deoiler outlet tube (32).
(g)
Remove and discard the packing (31).
(h)
Install protection caps on the ends of the deoiler outlet tube (32).

Disconnect the cable (3) for the exciter-to-igniter plug from the lower igniter plug (Fig. 401).
(a)
Loosen the clamp (2) which attaches the heat shields (1, 4) on the cable (3).
(b)
Remove the heat shields (1, 4).
(c)
Disconnect the coupling nut which attaches the cable (3) to the igniter plug.
(d)
Touch the igniter plug boss with the cable contact to ground the cable (3).
(e)
Attach the end of the cable (3) away from the igniter plug.

Remove the screws (9) and washers (10) which attach the heat shield (5) to the brackets.

Remove the bolts (6), washers (7), and nuts (8) which attach the heat shield (5) to the brackets.

Remove the heat shield (5) from the engine.

Disconnect the electrical connectors (22, 23, Fig. 402) from the ends of the cable for the EEC alternator stator (17) (located at the bracket on the lower left side of the gearbox).
