F. Install the Stator

Remove the protection caps.

Lubricate the new packing (15) with the petrolatum.

Install the new packing (15) on the stator (17).

With the bolt holes in the stator (17) aligned with the bolt holes in the EEC alternator drive pad, carefully install the stator (17) on the rotor (3).

Lubricate the threads of the bolts (11) with the antigalling compound.

ENGINES PRE-PW-SB 72-375;
Do these steps:
(a)
Put the heat shield (12) above the stator (17).
(b)
Attach the stator (17) and the heat shield (12) to the EEC alternator drive pad with the bolts (11) and washer (19).
(c)
Tighten the bolts (11) to 62-72 pound-inches (7.0-8.1 newton-meters).

ENGINES POST-PW-SB 72-375;
Do these steps:
(a)
Attach the stator (17) to the EEC alternator drive pad with the bolts (11) and washer (19).
(b)
Tighten the bolts (11) to 62-72 pound-inches (7.0-8.1 newton-meters).

(c) Use a 0.003 inch (0.076 mm) feeler guage to make sure the clearance between the EEC alternator (17) and the EEC Alternator Drive Pad is satisfactory. 1) If the feeler guage can go in the clearance, you must do a
check of the torque of the bolts (11).
2) If the bolts (11) are at the maximum torque and the EEC alternator stator (17) is not installed correctly, remove and install the stator (17) again.
3) Use the feeler guage again to make sure the clearance is satisfactory.

Connect the cooling air tube (14) on the right side of the stator (17) with the clamp (13).

Put the retaining plate (21) behind the cable end flanges of the stator (17).

Make sure the spacers point forward.
