Wired for
Success
Electronic and Communication engineering
‘I was attracted to electronic and
communications engineering
because of its versatility and the
excellent career prospects. Studying
common courses with other
engineering degrees in the first two
years allowed me to discover what I
really enjoyed about engineering and
I was also attracted to the work
experience opportunities.’
‘My work experience at the Melbourne Airport repair centre where I
observed and helped repair radio transmission systems and
navigational aids to assist pilots was a major highlight. The work
involved circuit analysis, problem solving and approved modification
enhancements and I found I could apply what I had learned in my
classes. Having this opportunity gave me a taste of the real world, as
well as hands-on experience and work ethics that will help me in my
future career.
‘Throughout my studies I have learned to become a better
problem solver, think outside the box, be observant and to
think on my feet not just at university, but in everyday life.
These skills have proved useful in major projects where we’re
given multiple tasks, particularly when things don’t turn out as
planned. It has also taught me valuable management,
organisational and leadership skills.
‘After I complete my degree, I hope to find a graduate job that
will allow me to travel and further my knowledge. I’m keen to
gain different life experiences and ultimately, hope to find a job
either in Japan, Dubai or Taiwan, where the real engineering
and technological gurus are.’

‘I chose RMIT because of its well-known
reputation for producing successful
engineers and for the balance of theory
and practice. I also loved the location,
right in the heart of the city.’
