Concorde
A photographic history
by Jonathan Falconer
Concorde is the world’s most famous
passenger transport aircraft and an
icon of 20th century design. When
British Airways and Air France
withdrew their Concordes from service
in 2003 it marked the end of a unique
era in supersonic air travel. For this
first large-format full-colour tribute to
Concorde, Jonathan Falconer has
scoured a wide range of private
collections, company archives and
media libraries in order to compile a
stunning collection of colour
photographs that portray Concorde
from its first flights in 1969 to its
swansong in 2003.

Concorde Manual
by David Leney,
David Macdonald
Written by two of British Airways’ most
experienced Concorde flight crew, the
Concorde Manual is the latest aircraft

the acclaim received by the Spitfire
Manual. Concentrating on the technical
and engineering aspects of Concorde,
this manual gives rare insights into
owning, operating, servicing and flying
the supersonic airliner. Although the
British and French Concorde fleets
were prematurely retired in 2003,
interest in this marvel of design and
technology remains undiminished and
all who admire Concorde will relish the

Codename ‘Valkyrie’
by Helena Schrader
On 20 July 1944 the last assassination
attempt against Hitler failed. Leading
conspirators behind the attempted
coup and thousands of supporters and
sympathisers were arrested and
executed. First to fall to the vicious
Nazi retribution was General Friedrich
Olbricht, who had nurtured the plans
over three years – codenamed
Valkyrie. Olbricht was less glamorous
than Stauffenberg, who laid the bomb
in Hitler’s bunker, but contributed far
more to the overall resistance against
Hitler. Helena Schrader traces
Olbricht’s transformation into an active
conspirator dedicated to removing
Hitler from power, showing how his
plans might have succeeded had
Stauffenberg not failed.

Digging Up Plugstreet
The archaeology of a Great War
battlefield
by Martin Brown,
Richard Osgood
This is the compelling story of the
Australian soldiers of the 3rd Infantry
Division who journeyed to England in
1914, and who fought and died on the
Western Front during the First World
War. Using archaeology as the vehicle
for their story, Martin Brown and
Richard Osgood follow in the footsteps
of the ‘Aussies’, from their training on
windswept Salisbury Plain to the
cheerless trenches of Belgium, where
they ‘dug-in’ north-east of Ploegsteert
to face the Germans. It presents a
unique window into the world of the
men who marched away to fight the
so-called ‘war to end wars’.
