Small aircraft
Any unmanned aircraft, other than a
balloon or a kite, weighing not more
than 20 kg without fuel, but
including articles or equipment
installed in or attached to it at the
start of its flight.
Small balloon
One not exceeding 2 metres in any
linear dimension, including baskets,
etc. attached to it.
Small Rocket
One with a total impulse from its
engine(s) not above 10,240 Newtonseconds.
Special VFR flight
A VFR flight authorized by ATC
within a control zone where IFR
would normally apply (see Rules of the
Air).
Stopway
A rectangular area at the end of a
runway in the direction of take-off,
with the same width, prepared as a
suitable area for stopping in a
rejected take-off.
Suitable accommodation
A single-occupancy bedroom subject
to minimal noise, well ventilated,
with facilities to control temperature
and light, or accommodation suitable
for the site and season, with a
minimal level of noise and providing
adequate comfort and protection
from the elements.
Superheated Vapour
That with its temperature above the
boiling point of its liquid.
Surface
Ground or water, including when
frozen.
State of the operator
The location of the principal place of
business, or permanent residence if
there is none.
Take-off
For other than airships, leaving a
supporting surface, including the
take-off run, plus acts just before
and after. For an airship, freeing it
from restraint, including acts just
before and after.

2.215 of JAR-FCL 2.
Uncontrollable balloon
A balloon, not being a small one, not
capable of free controlled flight.
UK licence
One included in Section 1 of Part A
of Schedule 8.
UHF
Ultra High Frequency.
UK licence for which there is a JARFCL
equivalent
PPL, CPL, ATPL (see Section 1 of
Part A of Schedule 8).
UK licence for which there is no
JAR-FCL equivalent
Any licence in Section 1 of Part A of
Schedule 8 not mentioned above.
UK reduced vertical separation
minimum airspace

UTC
Universal Coordinated Universal Time.
